The infected passengers are expected to remain on board the cruise liner MV Hondius until repatriation flights arrive. Spain’s Ministry of Defense is set to transfer 14 Spanish nationals from the ship to a hospital in Madrid, where they will undergo quarantine. They are expected to be the first to disembark. After the evacuation process is completed, the vessel — with about 30 crew members on board — is expected to head to the Netherlands for disinfection. In total, eight people on board have been diagnosed with hantavirus. Three passengers have died, and one infected individual is in critical condition in a hospital in Johannesburg. Earlier, dockworkers in Tenerife staged a protest over the vessel’s arrival.
