THE WILD BUNCH [1969] 🤠 Directed by "Bloody Sam" Peckinpah This is my favorite western, and this exchange between Holden and Borgnine is one of my favorites quotes in all of film. Borgnine's statement is so undeniably and painfully true that Holden has no response.

The epic shootout in THE WILD BUNCH. Sam Peckinpah shot over 333,000ft of film with 1,288 camera setups, using real Mexican soldiers as extras. The shootout used 10,000 squibs for realistic blood effects.

THE WILD BUNCH premiered on this day in 1969. Might have to pour a drink and watch it tonight.

The Train Robbers > The Wild Bunch. More fun, less pretentious, and Wayne still looks like he could fold Peckinpah in half. Old Hollywood just hit different. 🎬🎥 The Train Robbers❤️🔥

The Wild Bunch is considered one of the first films to put squibs on both sides of an actor's body to replicate entrance/exit wounds. Sam Peckinpah had previously shown the devastating effects of a bullet tearing through a body in this scene from his TV show The Westerner:

Sam Peckinpah, born OTD in 1925, redefined on-screen violence with his "Ballet of Death," showing its real physical impact previously hidden by Hollywood's "clean" depictions. As he put it: “Dying is not fun and games.” The shootout in The Wild Bunch is a key example of this

My all-time favorite credit flash for a director is in Sam Peckinpah's THE WILD BUNCH [1969]. William Holden's line and the freeze frame are awesome. It also happens to be my favorite western.

This is the setup for the train sequence in my favorite western, THE WILD BUNCH [1969]. I've left more intact than usual so you can enjoy the sound design and the camera work as the gang set up their ambush 🤠
