Musician and former SRC President of the University of Ghana, Guru, lost his cool during a TikTok live session as he recounted how some colleague students allegedly sabotaged an SRC artistes’ event he organized. According to him, the students contacted musicians who had agreed to perform for free, falsely claiming that he had received funds for the event. He further alleged that they also reached out to the event organizer, warning him to withdraw his support.

Our UZ Chapter Chairperson today challenged the manner in which the regime in Harare is trying to impose #CAB3 on the people during a public lecture on the bill at UZ. Despite attempts to silence him by questionable characters, he insisted that any process without a referendum is illegal, null and void. He also used the platform to condemn the absence of a Student Representative Council at UZ for over three years now. We call on the admin University of Zimbabwe to ensure students have legitimate representatives and conduct an SRC election. Students demand an SRC election now.

The SRC, together with the Rent Control Unit led by the acting Rent Commissioner, embarked on a peaceful engagement with selected hostel managements to discuss the reasons behind the outrageous hostel charges imposed on students. The hostels visited were: 1.⁠ ⁠Victory Towers Hostel 2.⁠ ⁠Liendaville Hostel 3.⁠ ⁠St. Theresa’s Hostel The SRC remains committed to championing the welfare of students and continuing the fight against unfair hostel pricing on and off campus.
