Growing up, I heard all the same things so many girls who loved women’s basketball heard: “Nobody watches the WNBA.” Tonight, that couldn’t have felt further from the truth. I’ve made it my mission throughout my career to help tell the story of the WNBA in Canada. To witness history like this, in Montreal, with nearly 21,000 people in the building, is something I’ll never forget. This league deserves every bit of the love it’s receiving. They have done it as part of their faith for more than a thousand years. It is theirs, and they believe in it. There is nothing strange about that at all. What should stop us is the other half. There is nothing strange about Europe allowing it either, and that is exactly the problem. Europe allows it because Europe has forgotten who it is. A people that remembers what it stands for does not need to ban anything, it simply knows where its own line runs. We have lost that. And so the issue was never them. The issue is us. Now look at what actually moved through the streets. Men in front. Women in the second row. That is not a detail, that is the whole point. It is a view of women set into a system and marched out into the public square, in a city where generations fought for women and men to stand as equals. The real question is not whether people may believe what they want. They may. The question is why our capital should cultivate a political law-religion that commemorates a 7th-century power struggle by dividing people by sex on Nørrebrogade. One of the organizers is the Imam Ali Mosque, repeatedly described as the Iranian regime’s extended arm in Denmark. The same regime that hangs women and young men from cranes. We are not importing culture. We are importing a system. And we let it grow, not because they are strong, but because we forgot why we were. First a little. Then a lot. Then too late.

A court was only ever needed to decide what a woman is because men decided they can be women. The law, and society, has always known what a woman is - for better or worse. No one will understand the actual turmoil of going through a court case to establish what a woman is unless you have had to do it. It’s even more stressful than the stupid premise suggests. Sleepless nights, hair falling out, sporadic inconsolable crying fits. But yet, we persist. Because we have to. For Women Scotland have my full admiration, and more. They are right, they have done the right thing and history will remember them on the right side. It’s inevitable. Men will never be women. Never tell women we’re not a reality. We know the reality all too well and will fight to defend it. Women have had to fight for everything we have. We got nothing in law and society by accident. This is just the latest fight, albeit possibly the most stupid. I cannot wait to one day take my daughter to Scotland and show her the inevitable For Women Scotland statue and tell her “they did this for you”. Thank you. And in the words of the late, great, Magdalen Berns, “fuck off you wanker”.

A pioneer political activist, she was sole woman delegate at the founding conference of the ANC in 1912, as well as the founding President of the Bantu Women’s League. Her achievements were historic, but her greatest legacy may be the doors she opened for generations of women who followed. Trans activists have attacked and hounded feminists, loudly and often violently attempting to prevent us from meeting to discuss our rights, and defacing monuments. These images from yesterday should alarm you as they do us. Years of institutional indulgence have left activists emboldened to show their desire to commit violence against women in broad daylight and in public. Women’s safety is at risk if you do not take strong and immediate action. It is a dangerous moment for the women in this fight. Now we have labour MPs and ministers of your own government, whose job is to apply the rule of law, plotting to undermine this ruling. Will you, our Prime Minister, stamp out this subterfuge? Will you put an end to the misogynistic attempts to destroy everything that belongs to women?
