The world's first software-first mining company, Mariana Minerals is using rich data sources from the field to optimize their operations. They are deploying Spot at their Copper One facility in Utah to help capture the data they need, automating routine inspections and reducing strain on operators in the field.

@MarianaMinerals Using robots for risky tasks such as mining is a very smart decision. This will prevent precious lives from being killed in mines.

@MarianaMinerals What are the prices of these Spot machines now?

@MarianaMinerals The best robotics deployments tend to start with one repetitive job people are already tired of doing.

@MarianaMinerals From a risk management perspective what happens when Spot misses a critical anomaly loses connectivity or sends incomplete inspection data? Who carries the operational liability the mining company the robot manufacturer or the software provider?

@MarianaMinerals Mining is a better robot case than a stage demo because the value is measurable: fewer hazardous inspection hours, more consistent readings, and earlier detection of anomalies. I would track missed findings and human rechecks alongside missions completed.

@MarianaMinerals Routine inspection is exactly where field robotics can earn trust. Measure missed defects and recovery, not just miles walked.

@MarianaMinerals Great use case. But when will you grow out of your insanely overpriced robodogs?

@MarianaMinerals Robot dogs still seem like the best option for operating in harsh environments. It's hard to imagine humanoids working in a mining facility, at least in the near future.

"Software-first mining" is the interesting bet: ore grade at Copper One is fixed by geology, but uptime, dilution, and haul-cycle efficiency are not. A robot doing inspections doesnt find more copper, it finds the 5-10% operational slack that turns a marginal deposit into a profitable one."Software-first mining" is the interesting bet: ore grade is fixed by geology, but uptime and haul-cycle efficiency are not. @MarianaMinerals Boston Dynamics built a robot that can survive any terrain on Earth — and its first real jobs are mining and warehouses. Meanwhile the terrain that actually needs it — burned forests, polluted rivers — gets ignored. Impressive tech. Wrong priorities.
