The world’s highest dam has started power generation in SW China’s Sichuan Province. The first generating unit of the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station, featuring a 315-meter-high earth-rock dam, was connected to the grid on Friday, marking a major breakthrough in China’s construction of ultra-high dams above 300 meters.

China has a terrible history of dam building An example is Banqiao dam. It was built despite warnings & was called Iron Dam. In 1975, a typhoon broke it, triggering 60+ dam failures & the death of ~200k people. This was hidden for 3 decades. Tibet has 100s of such dams..

This is Yimwea Earth dam, Mbui- Nzau area in my constituency. It is one of the dams we have recently constructed. The vedio was taken this morning. With only a few days of rainfall, the 60million litres capacity dam is nearly full.

China’s engineering marvel 👀 Nov 11: the Hongqi Bridge (红旗大桥) at the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station (双江口水电站) in Barkam (马尔康市), Aba (or Ngawa) Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture (阿坝藏族羌族自治州), Sichuan province, collapsed after 4pm local time, apparently after a landslide occurred on the slope to which one end of the bridge was connected. The bridge was just completed earlier this year. No casualties were reported as the bridge had been closed since yesterday (Nov 10) after fractures were discovered.

Through this national campaign, Pakistan inaugurated two major dam projects, Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Mohmand Dam in 2020 under Prime Minister ‘IMRAN KHAN’ and both are under active construction today. These are not symbolic projects. Diamer-Bhasha Dam is among Pakistan’s largest and tallest dams, built to store millions of acre-feet of water, generate clean hydropower, control floods, and increase the life of Tarbela Dam. Mohmand Dam will produce electricity, supply clean drinking water to Peshawar, irrigate farmland and protect KP from floods. Mohmand Dam shown in below video.
