From earlier this morning, Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine’s update on the two airmen rescued in Iran... “We’ve had — the Secretary and I have had the profound honor of speaking directly with many of the warfighters on that mission, from the downed crew that that were picked up to those forces that went and got them. Hearing these stories firsthand has only deepened our appreciation for their tenacity, creativity, courage, and grit of the American Joint Force. This is a story that gets to the very heart and soul of who we are as a joint force, who we are as Americans. Selfless sacrifice in service of others. From the back seater, Dude 44 Bravo, whose pure and unadulterated joy at seeing those helicopters come into the valley to get his front seater in daylight because he knew the front seater did not have a jacket and was so filled with heart leaping joy at his front seater, getting picked up to the nighttime folks that went in and then got him to the tanker forces that did the things that they had to do to give their own gas away to the support packages, to those that went into the desert landing site not once, not twice, but three times as we fought through multiple contingencies. This was and is a joint force that has the guts to try, that does not quit, and who each and every day does the things that we must to dare to win. No lives were lost. We succeeded because the Joint Force is always at the ready. They trust each other, they trust their leaders and they trust their training. BIG | 🇩🇪‼️‼️ Germany is moving ahead with mandatory military-service screening for young men as Berlin rebuilds the mobilization infrastructure needed to expand the Bundeswehr amid the worsening European security environment. Under Germany’s new military-service system, 18-year-old male German citizens are required to complete a questionnaire about their suitability and willingness to serve. They can also be ordered to undergo a medical examination even if they indicate that they do not want to join the Bundeswehr. Germany is establishing 24 assessment centers nationwide, with the network expected to reach full capacity by July 2027. The measure does not mean that universal compulsory military service has automatically returned. Germany is initially relying on voluntary recruitment while creating the administrative and medical infrastructure needed to assess a much larger pool of potential personnel. The shift nevertheless marks another significant step in Germany’s effort to rebuild military readiness as European governments prepare for a more demanding long-term security environment. Departing from Homestead Air Reserve Base with the support of U.S. Southern Command, they carry with them far more than specialized training and equipment. They carry compassion, hope, and commitment to stand beside those facing unimaginable hardship. Behind every member of this team is a family they have hugged goodbye so they can answer the call of someone in need. That is the true meaning of service. We could not be more proud of these extraordinary men and women. When disaster strikes, they don’t ask who needs help or where they are from, they are simply ready to respond and ready to serve. Their courage and selflessness remind us that humanity has no borders, and that sometimes the greatest act of kindness is simply showing up when someone needs you most. Today, during his vacation, his comrades-in-arms - "Skipper" and "Private" from the "Akhmat" special forces - came to the grave of "Silver" to honor his memory. It's hard to stand at the graves of such young, strong heroes. They were full of life and courage, but chose the path of defending their homeland, giving their most precious thing for it.
