If they are not registered within 21 days, they will be shut down immediately. I’ve just finished watching this BBC report, and it really broke my heart. I wish our African leaders would sit down and resolve these issues diplomatically. I also wish our leaders would take the time to fully understand what is actually happening on the ground before reacting. I do not think it is fair to suggest that the South African government has remained silent or failed to condemn the actions of the small number of individuals who have harassed or intimidated people. There is often much more happening behind the scenes than what appears in media reports. I therefore appeal to African governments to engage through their embassies, diplomatic channels, and direct communication with Pretoria. We must be careful not to make decisions based purely on emotions or media headlines in ways that could undermine African unity. I live in South Africa, and my experience is that news coverage can sometimes create the impression that a situation is far bigger or more widespread than it actually is. That is why, some months ago, I cautioned the South African media against giving excessive airtime to fringe groups whose actions tarnish the image of South Africa both continentally and internationally. As journalists, we have a responsibility to report the news accurately, but we must also be careful not to amplify individuals who are deliberately performing for the cameras or seeking publicity through inflammatory statements and actions. My plea is simple, let African leaders engage one another calmly, honestly, and diplomatically. Africa’s challenges will not be solved through megaphone diplomacy or emotional reactions. They will be solved through dialogue, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to preserving the unity of our continent. There are people who are benefiting from what is going on, and I have no doubt that some of them will sleep very well tonight after watching this report. Let us be honest, South Africa has an immigration crisis, and pretending otherwise helps no one. It is a real issue that cannot simply be swept under the carpet. However, we must also be honest about a second reality, there are elements within South African society that are exploiting this immigration crisis, as well as the country’s economic challenges and unemployment, for political and populist purposes. What should be a serious discussion about immigration policy, border management, economic growth, and job creation is, in some instances, being turned into a vehicle for political mobilisation and the pursuit of narrow agendas. That is why I appeal to African governments to look beyond the headlines and seek to understand what is happening in the background. There are forces taking advantage of a genuine problem and manipulating public frustration for their own ends. As Africans, we have a responsibility to approach these issues with honesty and maturity. The first step is to acknowledge that South Africa has an immigration challenge. The second is to recognise that some political and social actors are exploiting that challenge for reasons that have little to do with finding real solutions. If we fail to understand both realities at the same time, we risk misdiagnosing the problem and deepening divisions at a time when Africa needs unity, dialogue, and practical solutions.

I agree with what South Africa’s Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, is saying, and it speaks directly to the crisis in which not only South Africa, but Southern Africa as a region, now finds itself. First of all, it is the responsibility of individual countries to ensure that they have government policies that grow their economies and provide jobs for their own people, so that their citizens can work at home instead of being insulted or forced into slave-like jobs in neighbouring countries. That responsibility lies with each government. That said, South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress, must sing from the same hymn sheet as Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni. You cannot have the government saying one thing while the ruling party, which constitutes part of that government, does something different. The ANC has consistently supported corrupt regimes that rig elections, and those rigged elections create the very conditions that South Africa now finds itself dealing with. I have said for more than seven years now that neighbouring countries are no longer only a foreign policy issue for South Africa. They are now a domestic issue too, because citizens from those countries live in South African communities and use South African social services, including hospitals. The South African government has said many times that 70% of women giving birth at Musina Hospital are from Zimbabwe. As such, it is important for the South African government not only to say the right words at specific moments, while privately continuing to support corrupt rule and bad governance in the region. That will not work. Yesterday’s march will achieve nothing if President Cyril Ramaphosa does not sit down with President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe, President Daniel Chapo of Mozambique, and President Peter Mutharika of Malawi to have these discussions honestly, because those are three countries that contribute significantly to regional migration into South Africa, both legal and illegal. Of course, he can also have conversations with President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria, because Nigeria is also part of the problem. Speaking as a citizen of Southern Africa, what the minister said is correct, but it must be followed up with action, not just words to appease journalists and viewers at a specific time because the government is under pressure. The South African government must make this its policy. The contradiction is that the South African economy benefits from migration and from shipping goods into the region. Zimbabwe’s biggest trading partner is South Africa for that very reason. So this is a complex issue that must be addressed with the intellectual weight it deserves, not reduced to talking points for politicians making fanciful declarations in their different countries without following through. Start with the SADC protocols. They determine what a free election is. But if the African National Congress publicly emboldens and supports rigged elections, it cannot then turn around and say African governments must take responsibility when it is failing to lead by example. The ANC must lead by example in regional bodies like SADC and the African Union, and say these things directly to fellow leaders. But we all know why it does not do that. It is because of personal relationships, political convenience, and money changing hands. It is time these things are put on the table, and if need be, let the truth be known. Lastly, I also agree with what the minister says regarding African countries supporting South Africa’s liberation struggle. We cannot endlessly remind South Africans that we helped them, because that support was never based on a quid pro quo arrangement. It was based on what was morally right at that time. If the same situation arose again today, we should do exactly the same. Standing against injustice should never come with an invoice.

It is clear that there is media agenda to destroy EFF. Can someone tell me why this speech by a young female member of parliament is not making news. Did you know that in their recent published newspaper, Daily Maverick wrote about EFF in 6 pages. What is worse is that it is 6 pages of attacking EFF and its leaders. There is absolutely nothing written about this brilliant speech by Naledi Chirwa. How on earth do you use 6 pages to attack an opposition party and still call yourself a newspaper. The situation in Kharkiv is very harsh. Russian terror is constant. Russians began using guided aerial bombs against the city almost daily. We are looking for ways to increase Kharkiv's ability to protect the sky. This is a task for both our military and diplomats, who are in charge of international communication and must maintain daily dialogue with partners. Ukraine clearly lacks sufficient air defense systems, and this is evident to all of our partners. The world must finally feel the pain caused by Russian terrorists in Kharkiv, Kupyansk, Donetsk region towns, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy region, and many other Ukrainian communities. There are air defense systems around the world that can help. Only political will is required to transfer them to Ukraine. I am grateful to the countries that have already helped. Being active in completing this task is the personal responsibility of our diplomats who work in these areas and with countries that have the necessary systems.
