If you were all about clarity, facts and respect, you’d present both sides, the pros and cons of separating, and the unknowns. You would also address whether separation means joining the US or being a truly independent country, because opinions on that vary. Will you do all that?

Canada’s ship of state is a big vast beautiful piece of real-estate. Geographically very easy to fall in love with, and have deep trust in, as its resources and industrialist people are immense. HOWEVER …We must not confuse love of government with love of country. There are similarities here to the great trustworthy ship the Titanic. The Titanic, “unsinkable” so many believed, that as the ship (Canada) was listing and sinking, many of the lifeboats left the great vessel half full because many believed, wrongly, that it could never go down. They were sadly so wrong, and perished. Regarding the “stay” side in Alberta’s debate, they too do not see the wisdom in those sounding the alarms over lost freedoms, lost revenues and lost opportunities. Instead of condemning rhetoric it’s time they respectfully listen to the thoughtful conclusions their neighbour’s and friends have come to and have demonstrated the courage and willingness to abandon the colonial model of CON-federation and build something better. Many former colonies around the world are far better off for choosing such a path. Clearly the federal government, led by an installed leader, is loading our sinking ship with higher debt, environmental dogma and steering our ship into “strategic” partnerships on uncharted dangerous waters with traditionally hostile entities (ice bergs, China) with no similarity to our historical or traditional values. “You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” -C.
