I grew up with the C64 (early 80s) as so many of you here. My very first game ever, the one that my brother and I played to death, was Falcon Patrol (1983) designed by Steve Lee. If there is one sound I will remember until my final days, it will be the refueling sound of the jet. What was your first computer and the very first game you played on it? Street Fighter Zero (Alpha) 2 was the most popular entry in the series. Compared to the first game, it had much better balance, and the additional characters made it far more appealing. Personally, I didn’t like Alpha 3 because it felt too complicated. I played it a lot in arcades, but I think I played it the most on the PlayStation 1. Do you like this game?

Street Fighter Zero (Alpha) 2 was the most popular entry in the series. Compared to the first game, it had much better balance, and the additional characters made it far more appealing. I will always associate Bullfrog Productions with innovation, daring to take risks, and trying unconventional ideas. That approach didn't just evolve later in their timeline of games but was pretty evident early on. Populous (1989) is widely recognized as the origin of God games. I remember having zero idea what to do when first playing it but being instantly hooked. Over time I figured it out, what the goal of the game was, how the mana bar worked, what effect the disasters had, how to raise or flatten land - I mean, think about how many other games before allowed you to cast an earthquake spell on your enemy, or to terraform the land around you, letting your hero cross the seas to wreak havoc on enemy peasants. Pure glorious mayham, fun, and a very novel concept. Obviously, the graphics look a bit dated now (though I love that pixel style), however the concept itself feels timeless. Populous is the game that first comes to mind when I see the Bullfrog logo, but it was not their only unique and ground-breaking game. One of the best developers of the 80s and 90s, truly missed if you ask me.

I personally think that eliminating stunt failures was the right decision. The game is prone to chaos, and if that element had been there, the difficulty would have been much higher. My impression from playing the game was that CrossWorlds was a game about how well you could combine drifting and tricks, and how well you could sustain acceleration. Of course, at first I questioned the lack of failure in the stunts, but when I tried it, it was extremely exhilarating and super fun to build up the combos.

I'm the developer of this game, I've played it thousands of times, written the code for everything in it. When I was coding the behavior of the drones in the Erra: Exordium, drones exploding outside my window in reality. I wanted to add a lot to the game, but I was afraid that if I died tomorrow, the world would never see this game. So, I had to abandon some plot parts, some scenes, characters, animations, a lot of things..., a third of the game was never released. I really regret it, but our reality and our world are a madhouse. I'm currently working on a game that's completely different. I want to create a little world of peace, energy, mystery, and puzzles. I hope I can do that, because the world has become even more idiotic.

Early 80s games had some of the best sound effects. The lasers, the explosions, and that "outer space" growling-noise... super eerie! Zaxxon (1982) was one of my favourites at the time. The 3D isometric graphics were the first of that kind I had eevr seen in a game. Normal "shooters" were vertically or horizontally scrolling - not diagonally. Not just eye-candy but requiring you to adjust height levels throughout the game, making it feel way more challenging. I don't think there was a game before Zaxxon that had this kind of design, right?

I had known about him growing up because I saw him in a few things but didn't follow him a lot because I had other interests at the time. But this interview and shortly after the puppy one made me a fan for life. I just locked eyes with him and that was it 😅

Weird Dreams (Rainbird Software, 1989) is indeed a very fitting title for one of the weirdest games ever. You are playing the character Steve, who is fighting for his life in the form of dream challanges. If you fail, you flatline. I wasn't a kid anymore when I first played this, but in my teenage years. Pretty much creeped me out back then, and still looks pretty funky now. The game got extremely mixed reviews, with some magazines rating it in the 80-90% range, while others hated it (scores of below 30%). If there was ever a game that had the perfect title, this would be it. Total nutcase, never played anything like it since.

After the game, Jayda said “I had 110% trust in Hannah Coor because she was the one that was telling me how much space I had to the wall… and that was the reason why I was able to make that play.” Seeing Hannah’s celebration made this moment even more incredible. Those are real TEAMmates. This whole team plays for each other, and that’s why they’re so successful.
