Schatz: This bill will kill 300,000 jobs in wind and solar per year. We're going to lose out on $450 billion in capital as thousands of projects go under. And because of that, we're going to generate about 500 gigawatts less energy in the next decade. The 500 gigawatts less energy in the next decade is pretty much exactly the amount of energy that we're going to need to meet rising demand. We are going to have energy shortages as a result of this legislation. Energy demand is soaring for the first time in decades, largely, not exclusively but largely because of A.I. data centers. And our best chance of meeting it in the next few years is with wind and solar, not oil and gas, even nuclear and geothermal are going to take awhile.

The amount of steel that goes into the foundations of a nuclear power plant is next level. 🔊 It is expensive to build, but consider what you get in return. A source of energy that produces hundreds (or thousands) of megawatts of electricity up to 70-80 years or so. It does not directly pollute or contaminate the air. The 70-80 year remark is based on OL1 & OL2 nuclear reactors in Finland. Commercial production started in 1978 and the current permit allows the plants to operate until year 2050. If you don't build the nuclear power plants, then you have to build lots of coal, natural gas or other baseload forms of energy. Nuclear is by far the best option.

Chris Camillo explains how Bloom Energy is solving AI data center energy usage problems… “ $BE is one of the only companies in the world that has a method to essentially bring almost an infinite amount of energy to these data centers." And we won't get into all the technology, but they are now working with hyperscalers and they are a resource for energy that will allow a data center to get ramped up quicker. "So, even though it costs a little bit more money today to put an energy cell from Bloom, an energy box from Bloom, which are energy cells, it essentially takes things like natural gas, but instead of burning the natural gas, there is a chemical process that turns that natural gas into energy for the data center."

West Virginia's Republican Gov. Patrick Morrisey stood alongside President Trump as the president announced a $700 million investment in coal and the construction of the first coal plant in the U.S. since 2013 in West Virginia. Baier: If this continues, this back and forth with Iran, what does that price look like as we head into the fall? Energy Secretary Chris Wright: I have no clairvoyance. In the first year of the Trump administration, we had more like $3-a-gallon gasoline, so it is elevated. But four years ago, under the Biden administration, we had $5-a-gallon gasoline. So the goal of the Trump administration is to get this back down toward $3, and we absolutely will get there. The question is just the timing of that. And I think we’ll continue to see increased flows of oil out of the Strait of Hormuz. We’ve got to get the refining infrastructure around the world back up and running. The pinch right now is more in the refining of oil and gas than it’s in crude oil delivery itself. So there are a lot of factors in play there. The Ukrainian attacks on the Russian refining system, which are taking massive tolls on Russia, are reducing the supply of refined products to the world, and that’s nudging up the price of refined products as well.
