I reached out for comment, and Walz's spokesperson gave this response: "The Governor has repeatedly and unequivocally urged protesters to do so peacefully. While people have a right to speak out, he in no way supports interrupting a place of worship." Notice how weak this statement is. Gov. Walz does not condemn the "protesters." He does not say they violated the worshippers' First Amendment right to exercise their religion. He does not urge his allies to condemn this. Instead, his spokesperson merely states Walz does not support this. That's slightly better than endorsing it, I suppose. But he really should condemn it. Walz has been demonizing the enforcement of immigration law, suggesting Trump is "at war" with him and suggesting he'd use National Guard to fight ICE. This neo-Confederate rhetoric emboldens people to harass innocents like the boys and girls in this service.
