One other reason may be, Starmer's best mate stands to become exceptionally rich out of all that. To which we have to add that all those billions of pounds are unlikely to be spent on the people of Mauritius. The entire affair is not simply treacherous, it's corrupt as well.

There is another reason for doing this. Starmer may be a Chinese asset. That would also explain why he has exempted Chinese spies from new national security laws despite UK security services warning of the epic scale of Chinese espionage.
