But no one has made such progress before. This happened thanks to Trump. - The next step was supposed to be a bilateral meeting. The Russians indicate that this, apparently, will not happen. Will it still turn into a multilateral meeting, or how do you see the plan of action? - First of all, I am meeting with Ukrainians this week. I will meet them in New York, and this is an important signal. We talk to the Russians every day. I think in the end a bilateral meeting may take place. Personally, I believe the president will need to sit at the negotiating table to finalize the deal. At the summit in Alaska, Putin admitted that this war would never have happened if the president had been in power then. - And he also said at that summit that he wants peace? Did he tell you he wants to end the war? - Absolutely. There really is a peace proposal on the table, and he said it clearly. And let's hope he stays true to his words. - But you know, critics argue that Putin is just playing you. How do you respond to that? - I think he has made good faith efforts to engage in the process.
