There is a serious question the government cannot keep running away from: Who is putting “Mumias Sugar” on supermarket shelves if that sugar did not come from Mumias Sugar’s own production? Imported industrial sugar is being repackaged, relabelled and pushed into the Kenyan retail market under the Mumias brand....

I went to a warehouse in Embakasi Industrial Area by accident because I missed the right gate of the place where I was going and what I saw shocked me. This exact brand was being repackaged there under a Muhindi supervisor. The guard at the gate told me that big cars come in and go periodically to check progress

If you did any research you'd know Mumias Sugar has been fully operational. Ruto has successfully revived all sugar factories in the western region. Expect to see Sony sugar on the shelves soon

Mumias sugar was leased out to a private investor and is milling sugarcane. Whether itbis importing sugar and repackaging is a different matter.

So, you are not aware that Ruto resurrected the dead Mumias Sugar? When people are being told that the guy has overperformed, some idiots are busy spreading propaganda.

Listen to Joakim Simiyu then read; The advantage of being eloquent is that you can lie without being noticed, the inconsistencies will pass your audience while they are absorbed in the flow your words. 1) Kidero was never the Chairman of Mumias Sugar, he was the CEO, operating under the direction of the board. 2) The highest profit ever made in the history of Mumias Sugar was 2b made in 2012 during Kidero's tenure as CEO. So where did the 6b tax every year come from? 3) Kidero is the one who returned Mumias Sugar to profit making and the profit making ended when Kidero left. 4) The fact that imported Sugar could over-compete local sugar was not a local leaders problem but a national government problem - Kibaki's. 5) Simiyu should not expect every luo to be a fisherman especially when there are no roads to the landing beaches. 6) Construction of roads has never been in the hands of local leaders. Even now with devolution, it is not. 7) No luo has ever complained about Kikuyus owning media houses, in any case it's one Kikuyu called SK Macharia, the rest are miniature stations. They have only noted that they control the media houses. 8) Telling us that Achieng Oneko was the first information minister is a correct answer to the wrong question. Owning the media was only liberalised in the early 90s, long after Oneko had left. And what was Oneko suppose to do to the luos in media ownership. 9) Marginalisation has nothing to do with individual business ownership, that people can do from any part of the country. It is about infrastructure and public appointments. 10) It's not only Luo complaining about marginalisation. 11) The luo have never complained about land titles. By the way where have those petitions Simiyu is talking about worked? Since he started ranting about leadership, what has he changed? 12) The marginalisation complaints are not against individual leaders like Kagombe but against the government of the time. 13) Simiyu's arguments are just comic, fit for entertainment. He is better at the bunge la Wananchi. Jevanjee or Jakaranda would be great! Finally, Marginalisation and bad leadership are not mutually exclusive. The can exist concurrently.

🇮🇶|Basra Just Erupted. The Oil Capital of Iraq Is Protesting the Blockade on Iranian Flights. The Government Is Losing Control of the Street. Basra is not Baghdad. It is not Najaf. It is not Erbil. It is the south. It is the Shia heartland. It is the oil capital. It is where the money comes from. It is where the tribes are armed. It is where the militias are strong. It is where the people have been protesting for years against corruption, against unemployment, against the government that serves foreign masters. And now Basra is protesting the blockade on Iranian flights. This is not a small demonstration. This is a signal. Basra is the economic engine of Iraq. If Basra moves, the government feels it. If Basra protests, the government is in trouble. The government thought it could close the airports and no one would notice. It thought the pilgrims would stay home. It thought the marja'iyya would stay silent. It thought the streets would stay quiet. It thought the US dollar would be enough. It was wrong. The rally in Basra is the street speaking. It is the people saying: we did not vote for a government that blockades our neighbors. We did not vote for a government that turns away pilgrims. We did not vote for a government that obeys Washington against our own faith, our own history, our own blood. This is not a fringe protest. This is the south. This is the base. This is the people who fought ISIS. This is the people who defeated the Americans in 2011. This is the people who will not accept a blockade on Iran. The government is already isolated. The parliament is threatening an extraordinary session. The Grand Ayatollah of Karbala has declared that blocking pilgrims is a confrontation with religion itself. The resistance factions are calling for a sit-in at the airports. The Deputy Speaker of Parliament has said the decision is unconstitutional. And now Basra has taken to the streets. The government cannot survive if Basra turns against it. Basra is not just a city. Basra is the source of the oil revenue that funds the entire state. Basra is the port that handles the imports that feed the country. Basra is the province that produces the wealth that keeps the government in power. If Basra protests, the government shakes. If Basra strikes, the government falls. The US told Iraq to block Iranian flights. Iraq complied. The Iraqi people are rejecting it. Not in secret. Not in whispered conversations. In the streets. In public. In Basra. The blockade was supposed to isolate Iran. It is isolating the Iraqi government instead. The blockade was supposed to strangle Iran. It is strangling the Iraqi government's legitimacy. The blockade was supposed to show that Washington can force its will on the region. It is showing that Washington cannot force its will on the people.
