There is a serious question the government cannot keep running away from: Who is putting “Mumias Sugar” on supermarket shelves if that sugar did not come from Mumias Sugar’s own production? Imported industrial sugar is being repackaged, relabelled and pushed into the Kenyan retail market under the Mumias brand.... This is not a small business irregularity. It is a massive fraud against Kenyan consumers, farmers and legitimate sugar producers. Someone is making money from this racket & William Ruto is involved. Someone is supplying the sugar. Someone is providing the packaging. Someone is moving it through warehouses and distributors. And someone is getting it onto supermarket shelves. That entire chain is protected by the ministry of Ministry of Interior | Kenya. We need the batch numbers, import records, customs declarations, warehouse records, packaging records, production records and distribution trail made public. Kenya cannot have a situation where imported sugar enters the country, mysteriously changes identity and suddenly appears in supermarkets wearing a Kenyan brand. If you did any research you'd know Mumias Sugar has been fully operational. Ruto has successfully revived all sugar factories in the western region. Expect to see Sony sugar on the shelves soon

Mumias Sugar Company was leased for 20 years to Sarrai Group where operations restarted in 2021 and the brand name returned to supermarket shelves around late 2022 no counterfeit/repackaged Sarrai buys sugarcane from farmers now and process about 8,000 tonnes of cane per day

They have done physical verification of stocks in the sugar mills. They have also put limits on the trading community. They have put limits on institutional buyers and bulk consumers. We are also seeing certain other tightening steps happening. The import of sugar is another important step that has been announced. There is no shortage of sugar. We all know excess sugar is harmful, but there is one ingredient which Indians consume daily which is even worse than sugar! . . . Maltodextrin. The glycemic Index (GI) for table sugar is 65 whereas maltodextrin is 110. The glycemic index (GI) measures how fast a particular food/drink spikes your blood sugar. So the higher the glycemic index, the bigger the blood sugar spike. The more shocking part is that maltodextrin isn’t technically counted as “added sugar” according to FSSAI.
