There is however another option that delivers potentially more fiscal savings long-term - eliminating permanent residence and moving all our work-related immigrants (and refugees) to temporary visas. That way the taxpayer wouldn’t have to pay for their superannuation and healthcare when they retire. This could be the most effective AND politically palatable solution to the problem.
