If kids are required to be at school for 8 hours every day, then meals should be provided to them for free. I don’t care if that means my taxes pay for food for a millionaire’s kid. Being against free school lunch is fkn degenerate loser shit.

I think school lunches should be free for everyone! It seems the government can shell it out to all these NGO’s’ Fraudulent Practices all across the Nation! I’m sure if they digged deep enough they would find it!

We had one girl in elementary school that never had lunch. Everyone at the table would pitch in something from their tray so she was always whole. We were 9 years old and we knew better. The 80’s rocked.

As someone who has worked in education for 25 years. This post is so real. The embarrassment in the cafeteria line is unbelievable in this country.

Children are REQUIRED to go to school. As such, ALL children should be given free lunch. Other countries do it & with a higher quality of food. There is absolutely no reason why the U.S. can’t do the same. #FreeLunchForAll

The fact that the @usedgov ALLOWS CHILDREN to be put in debt (yeah sure- it’s the parents, but YOU put that on the child) over FOOD- in an institution YOU MANDATED they participate in. Then you give shit food- deadly food, put financial stress on a child and give them one of the worst educations in the world. WITH THE MONEY you STEAL from us in taxes. Debt= Americas love story with its “people”… you misspelled slaves.

I was sending my children to a Catholic school in Yukon OK when I got sick from mold in my house and was temporarily on short term disability. I fell behind a bit on the tuition payments. The school had a fund specifically there to help families who needed it but instead of being supportive the school didn't help me, the Priest literally told me it was unacceptable for me to be sick and I needed to go back to work. The Priest (young) cared more about his chandelier for the new reception room and his trips to the Vatican. Report card day came, my kids were 10yrs and 8yrs old. They were crying because they didn't get their report card. I wound up having no choice but to withdraw them and put them in public school and needless to say I found a new Catholic Church. It was terrible. This was in 2004 so it's been going on a long time.

Apparently I stumbled onto the dumbest post on X today. I worked since I was 8. I packed my own lunch since I was 9. I never paid for food at school, I took my own. This is the epitome of privilege & virtue signalling.

I experienced this in the 80’s. Same situation. Perhaps we can stop pumping money into NGO’s for drug needles and s£x Ed in Nairobi and feed our students that are REQUIRED to attend.

Welcome to the richest country in the world. Where everyday people go hungry while the rich get richer.

Meanwhile, if you’re a foreigner, everything is free, no problem, no questions, all courtesy of the American taxpayer. I want to help her. I don’t give two shits about these fucking foreigners.

In 2002 I was a single mom making $10 an hour. Most kids at my daughter’s school were on free lunches. I did not qualify.

I remember I was a dime short. I asked a teacher for a dime. He said I would if I could but I can't so I shan't. I was 8.

Once your account was over where I went to school- they would take your lunch trey and instead hand you an uncrustable. Never got pulled out of line but it was still very embarrassing. Especially cuz the food they just put on the trey went in the trash.

What happens is parents become comfortable with the govt raising their kids. We see it all over the internet and in real life.

All do this, just some states really enforce it. I know personally in ID, ND, SD, MT & WY if you go $20 in the negative your parents get let's, phone calls and the child is pulled out of line and given either a PB &J sandwich with 1 old milk. I worked at the schools here and YES they leave soon to be expired milk out and then the next day when the lunch leaves get there they usually get there 4:30am or 5:00 in the morning depending on what the school requires. They'll put those nasty old milks back in the milk fridges in a certain spot and are left for the kids that and I quote, " parents can't get it together." It amazes me but a lot of the people in the office and lunch ladies look down on the kids when it's really the parents and from what I've seen majority (80%) is parents can afford to pay they just don't want to. But then there's really those kids that whose parents fall in between that trap I know I'm one of those parents right now ( almost 2 years ago I got hurt at work broke my back I've had multiple spine surgeries just got out of a surgery a month ago due to have two more within the next 4 months. I was the main income earner now I'm not now I'm making 30% of what I was making but I make $150 too much a month to qualify for any help with $150 doesn't get me anywhere and I have three kids to support) instead of feeling sorry for the child or just paying it because there are programs at the schools that cover this they don't want to. The schools admins/lunch ladies will shame that child sometimes they won't even give them food or they'll make them sit in a special desk in the cafeteria so everybody knows that that child couldn't afford lunch, you know the good old Christian way🙄

In the 60-70s in the south Chicago suburbs, there were no school lunches until HS and nothing was free. I guess we barely survived on home made lunches of peanut butter and jelly or the occasional ham and cheese or canned tuna, plus a small apple or banana and a few chips in a small baggie were an every-day lunch, eaten at our desks in the classroom. Sometimes we would even (shock!) trade parts of our lunch with other kids! For a drink we had a thermos with milk or a juice. No waste, no mess, no upset stomachs, very environmentally friendly. Depending on the State to feed your kids is not always the best way to go.

OMG yes LMFAOOO this is exactly what I’ve been trying to tell people. I grew up the same way, family didn’t make enough money to keep the water and electricity on, but still “made enough” to not qualify for any government assistance. So yeah, fuck me right. Lived on a mattress on the floor till I moved out. Had a leaky ceiling that stunk up the whole room, and because the room was so small I had to keep sliding my mattress across the floor hoping the leak wouldn’t reach the other corner. When it snowed or rained a certain way it would still drip in and hit me so some nights I was wet. Most Winters meant no electricity, no running water, a leaking ceiling, and me freezing at night because we had no heat. House was built a long ass time ago with zero insulation, so summers were boiling hot and winters I had to sleep in a coat under my blankets.

I remember that, but they did it a little different in my school. They let the teacher know and the teacher brought it to our attention in front of the whole class. So were the days…. Most days I couldn’t afford to eat, and my lunch was only 20 cents. I was 117 pounds when I graduated, and my clothes hung on me.

I remember if you got to the cashier lunch lady and didn’t have money they would literally take your tray and dump the food in the garbage right in front of you rather than take an IOU. The garbage can got fed, you didn’t. Taught me a lot about this world

@Melanieakroyd Personally I think all kids should get a lunch at school. Start by taxing more fairly. Then we can make sure all kids eat.

This whole diatribe about free lunch and no mention of how your parents are dogshit. Make too much money to qualify but don’t prioritize their child or your too entitled to bring a lunch with you

Фото профиля Tburdy

All through my school days we qualified for free lunch and this was back when all kids paid cash for their lunch or bought tickets and nobody had a lunch account. and I had a ticket that meant I was getting free lunch. It was pink. Everybody that bought tickets got green ones. So every single person knew I was poor enough to have free lunch so I don't want to hear her sob story! Her family was doing better than mine and she's complaining about the school and not her family making her lunch a priority instead of other things that they could've been putting on the back burner. Her parents being irresponsible is what she's really complaining about. She's blaming the school for her problems.

I pick a school once a month & I go in &pay off the school cafeteria balance & always leave extra so no child has 2go hungry. If people would band together, pull resources & picked a school or schools, 2help keep the debt cleared, we could prevent our children from going hungry.

She’s not lying. This was in the late 80s, but when I was in the middle school. We werent poor enough to receive assistance, but no money to receive allowance. Id go hungry 3-4x a week. It’d be a lucky day when the nice lunch lady would give me chocolate milk that cost $.25 cents

I grew up in a family of 10. We all ate brown bag lunches. Once every few months, we might have been allowed to get pizza day lunch. We ate tuna, balagna, pb&j, whatever we could afford. So, sorry, this doesn't fly with me.

I hated this bad man. Once the lunch lady took my food in the middle of me eating and said they made a mistake and I owed money. In front of everyone, a dean came in and paid it for me. That was middle school and I’m still so damn embarrassed by it
