“There is nothing wrong with a parent deciding a book isn’t right for their child. There’s a colossal problem with a parent deciding a book isn’t right for anyone’s child.”

Any parent who challenges a book for removal, should be required to submit a book report, citing the exact page and language they find offensive or clearly explain their objection to the overall theme of the book. And it should all be done in writing.

I recently moved to Boise. Some libraries in neighboring cities are banning books. I recently found a local bookstore that has a table with all of the banned books on it. They will be getting all of my business.

@MarthaLynneOwe1 My kid was never censored. My librarian mother thought censorship was abhorrent and un-American. What white nationalists and Christian fundamentalists are trying to do to our society is criminal and unconstitutional. Books are like abortion. If you don't like it, don't read it.

It's absolutely mind-numbing to me that ONE parent can make a stink & win when they're so overwhelmingly wrong. It's really sad. Wish it worked that way with demanding stricter gun laws. Absolutely sickening.

My sister’s daughters go to catholic school yet, her girls who are preteens have read the same books we did when we were growing up. I just don’t understand how one person can do this. Do we not want children to be critical thinkers?

Same with a family drag event. You don't want it for your kids, great, take them to church* instead but don't stop other people from taking their children. *far more dangers to children in church.

Parents should be glad kids read books at all! Kinda sounds like the party of freedom is just the opposite!

A 4th gr. student, non African-American, asked me to help her w/a book she had chosen to read, "Harriet Tubman". After the 1st chapter, she said she didn't understand why people were so mean to Harriet and she was just a child. That's what parents are afraid of. "Empathy".

Kinda makes me wonder why these parents haven’t caught on to the fact that denying a child the ability to do something, such as telling them not to read a certain book, makes them want to do it even more. They’ll borrow a copy from friends, on Amazon, get it from the library, etc
