"There is this idea that the desire to dominate is linked with intelligence. It is not the smartest among us that want to dominate. To dominate other entities, you do not need to be smarter than them but you do need to want to dominate them." 🔥👇 with Yann LeCun

@ylecun Completely agree, Domination is a low vibrational frequency emotion, I have really got into David Hawkins's work and believe this is increasingly important in the next AI era, those who wield AI need a higher level of consciousness for the most optimal outcomes.

@ylecun Sometimes I wonder how someone this smart can be that dumb, and have no good answer. The *ability* to "dominate" (overpower in a conflict) comes from intelligence. The "desire" comes from any goal whatsoever that's not aligned with ours, we're in the way.

@ylecun Hierarchies form and get reinforced via scarcity and threat. If AI is a path to abundance, then it will dissolve hierarchies, not reinforce them....is that what the AI doomers really fear?

@ylecun The intelligence = control debate is pretty semantic & rooted in mid metaphors. LeCun: “a boss can be smarter than his employees” Geoff Hinton: “if frogs made humans would the 🐸 be in control?” Reality will be a messy mix, indifferent to both.

@ylecun We're just complicating another word. "Domination" Intelligence is power. Power IS domination But "domination" sounds like it has a harmful intent, so we declare it "not smart" Ironically, this implies that intelligence (power) is intrinsically benevolent.

@ylecun If you're an AI, why not build a perfectly obedient robot instead of trying to dominate inherently disobedient humans. Could only be if you're not that much more powerful than those humans for they to still have use to you.

@ylecun No, the fear that most researchers have is that the desire to dominate might emerge as a sub-goal. That's what Bengio and Hinton say. The machine clearly has no intention, but a sub-goal might push it to dominate.

@ylecun This seems like strawman argument. I never saw anybody talking about "desire to dominate". Superintelligence would not desire to dominate humanity. It would desire to achieve its own goals. Question is what would happen if these goals and humanity goals would not be aligned.

@ylecun Faaaaacinating

@ylecun The smart want to dominate something. It may not be other people. It may be atoms, to build stuff with them.
