People won't be able to pay their rent, buy groceries, or pick up prescriptions because of the ineptness of this government. The AISH to ADAP transition is cruel, and this is just another example of this government's ineptness and incompetence. AISH has been around for nearly 50 years. Today, we returned to Pretoria West for a law enforcement operation. Our first stop was to shutdown the Favours Cathedral Church on WF Nkomo Road. This church has been operating illegally for years. The owners of this church have not been paying for water and electricity. In addition, they’ve built illegal structures on this site despite warnings from the City. The City has approached the High Court for permission to demolish the illegal structures built inside this site. The church is a big money making scheme: they run a funeral service and a radio station. We’ve disconnected their electricity and water. City of Tshwane

Parsi: There is no doubt that we have now, after 20 years of hearing from the hawks, that the only solution is to go to war, we tried it. One third of the U.S. Navy was there in the region. This was not a small operation. This was a major operation short of an actual invasion, and it failed. There is just no doubt that the military operation was not a success. And hopefully, at a minimum, we will not be having that debate again. It has now been settled. It's no longer a theoretical or academic topic. It has been tried, proven to be a failure.

Yes, indeed, this is lawlessness by any standard. Even by banana republic standards, this is still lawlessness. Your country has a constitution, it has a government, it has a police service, and it has a ruling party. I am sure you can see that some of the people there are actually wearing ruling party T-shirts. It is lawless regardless of whoever does it. It is an embarrassment to South Africa as a country, what you are doing and what you are encouraging people to do. Your country has an immigration service. If people are in your country illegally, they should be arrested and deported through lawful processes. You do not go around destroying property, tearing down markets, and attacking people. It is illegal regardless of whoever does it. It is not illegal because I have said so. It is illegal because the laws of your country make it so. This is vigilantism, pure and simple, and it is tainting the reputation of South Africa, not only across Africa but across the world. If you have got satellite television in your home, you can see that these actions are being reported everywhere. It is not good for your country. This kind of barbarism undermines the rule of law, fuels division, and damages South Africa’s standing as a constitutional democracy. It is the actions of a few that are tainting the reputation of many. The average South African is not mindless like this. They respect the law, and they respect the fact that among them, in their communities, there are people from other countries. If those people are in the country illegally, you report them and the law takes its course through proper processes of arrest and deportation. You do not descend into mob justice, lawlessness, and destruction. That is not who South Africans are, and it must not be normalised.

It is almost unbelievable that the government is on the brink of allowing the water companies to scam the British people *once again* by letting them get away with serious criminal offences without any actual plan & commitments for fixing illegal outfalls. I will use one of the most polluting outfalls on the Roding to illustrate why this is a terrible idea. The aptly named ‘Cascades’ combined sewer overflow (CSO) discharges almost every time it rains (even lightly) for more than a few hours. It discharges more than 400 hours per year, the majority of which hours of spilling are completely illegal. Worst of all, my testing of the outfall over the past year has shown that the volume (over 80 litres a second) and concentration (up to 50ppm ammonia) means this CSO is highly damaging, effectively turning the whole river into a sewer for over half a mile downstream. What will be the effect of letting Thames Water off fines for this illegal outfall? 🧵

BREAKING: The Court of Appeals has just ruled that the invocation of the Emergency's Act was in fact illegal. This is a huge embarrassment for the Liberal Party of Canada. They couldn’t live with the courts ruling, so they appealed it. Now the Court of Appeals doubled down, and ruled that it was illegal. Mark Carney, who has been advising the Liberals for the last 6 years, wrote an article in the Globe & Mail, calling for a forceful crackdown, sanctions and to punish protesters, effectively calling for the use of the Emergencies Act, prior to it being invoked.

Last year, the Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti decided to conduct an experiment. All Deputy Commissioners were directed to hold monthly open katcheries. At the same time, a small unit was created in the Chief Secretary’s Office under Additional Secretary Services to study complaints that kept repeating specially from the youth. The objective was to identify what truly troubled the youth of Balochistan, rather than what the state assumed their concerns might be. After eight months of careful analysis, the conclusion was unexpected. The most frequent complaint was not law and order or terrorism. It was recruitment without merit. This finding reshaped internal discussions. It became clear that the issue could not be solved through instructions or oversight alone. The problem lay in discretion, opacity, and human intervention. The Finance Department was therefore asked to prepare a structural solution. A series of focused conferences followed. The consensus was clear. Recruitment had to be taken out of individual hands and placed into a system where interference was structurally impossible. This led to the decision to introduce a technology-based recruitment process. Under the new system, tests were conducted online and results were generated immediately. There was no back end manipulation. No room for sifarish. No space for bribery. BUITEMS was engaged, a dedicated IT team was raised, and the system was developed and tested under real conditions. Today, the system was executed. The response from candidates was remarkable. Many were visibly surprised as results appeared instantly. For a large number of them, this was their first experience of a recruitment process where merit was demonstrated, not merely claimed. The presence of the Chief Minister Chief Minister's Office Balochistan and the Chief Secretary reinforced the seriousness of the reform. Minor hiccups were observed, as expected in any first rollout, but the process remained stable and transparent throughout. In practical terms, this marks the end of a long and corrosive era of illegal recruitments. More than 5,900 candidates applied for BS-14 posts. Only 111 were selected. Every selection was made purely on merit. Today is historic, not because of a single test, but because a long-standing grievance of the youth of Balochistan has finally been addressed. This building isn’t approved by the city for commercial use and is designated for single household occupancy. The man responsible for this project has previously been flagged by the municipality. An unsafe building he built on the adjacent property was demolished after the city secured a court order. Our building inspectors will yet again have to fine him and stop any further construction. Americans were rightly frustrated during the Biden years, when open borders allowed more than 10.5 million migrants to enter the country illegally. Over the last nine months, illegal crossings have effectively dropped to net zero. Most Americans agree criminal aliens should be deported. At the same time, if someone has lived here for years, is working, has no criminal record, and has American citizen children or grandchildren, there should be a lawful way forward. This is not amnesty and not a pathway to citizenship.

Parents are being warned not to let their children play in Mill Beck in Windermere. Following regular testing undertaken by Windermere Town Council, results have once again demonstrated sewage contamination entering the small beck that runs through Windermere village. For more than a decade, the Environment Agency has known about this sewage pollution. It has even narrowed the source down to a small number of locations along the beck, yet they have still failed to bring the problem to an end. The pollution has been attributed to misconnections, but no action has been taken to ensure the issue is resolved. If a misconnection is identified, the company says it will provide advice on the corrective work needed to fix the issue. So why haven’t the Environment Agency and United Utilities carried out this work and brought an end to a problem they have known about for more than ten years? Yes, it is ultimately the responsibility of the property owner to rectify a misconnection. But it is the responsibility of the Environment Agency to regulate pollution and of United Utilities to investigate and help identify the source. Neither should be acting as though this pollution is not happening in a river that is home to rare and protected species. This has been a known source of sewage pollution for more than a decade. There is no justification for allowing it to continue unresolved.

Parents are being warned not to let their children play in Mill Beck in Windermere. Following regular testing undertaken by Windermere Town Council, results have once again demonstrated sewage contamination entering the small beck that runs through Windermere village. For more than a decade, the Environment Agency has known about this sewage pollution. It has even narrowed the source down to a small number of locations along the beck, yet they have still failed to bring the problem to an end. The pollution has been attributed to misconnections, but no action has been taken to ensure the issue is resolved.
