#WATCH | Draft UGC (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment & Promotion of Teachers and Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) Regulations, 2025 released. UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar says, "Faculty members are the backbone of our universities and colleges. So, when we select and promote them, we need to evaluate them holistically. In the earlier regulations, we were driven by quantitative evaluation such as the academic performance indicators. Whereas, in the new regulations that we are bringing out in the draft regulations, there are many opportunities that we are creating to the faculty members. Earlier, if somebody had an undergraduate degree and PhD, they were not eligible to be appointed but now these new regulations provide that opportunity. So, there are 3 qualifications that we are providing for the new entrance into the universities and colleges. Those with undergraduate degree and PhD or a master's degree and PhD can apply without writing the UGC-NET. But those candidates who have a master's degree in non-professional programs such as Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Sciences have to clear UCG-NET to be eligible to become Assistant Professors. But candidates who have an engineering master's degree, such as ME and MTech, they don't need to write UGC-NET and they can directly apply for Assistant Professor positions in Engineering and technology programs..."

UGC Rules Will Increase Discrimination: UGC Promotion of Equity Regulations 2026 claim to end discrimination, but in reality, they will increase it. After tragic cases like Rohith Vemula and Payal Tadvi, Supreme Court emphasised the need for safer universities. But safety cannot come at the cost of basic justice. By defining discrimination to include implicit behaviour without intent, routine academic interactions can be treated as violations, quietly assuming General Category students as oppressors. With no safeguards against false complaints, aggressive timelines, reversed burden of proof, and external interference, fear replaces trust. Equity squads and reporting cultures silence dialogue and weaken classrooms. India should grow through fairness, excellence, and open debate. India should grow by empowering universities, not policing them!

#WATCH | Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: On the Supreme Court staying UGC's Equity Regulations, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi says, "I welcome this judgment because the UGC guidelines are highly discriminatory. To address discrimination, they were bringing more discrimination to campuses, and there are three points I have continued to raise, which even the Supreme Court has validated. The concerns that I was expressing with regard to the penalty clause. What do we do with regard to that, in terms of the ability for everybody who is on the campus, who faces some kind of discrimination? They should be able to go to the equity committee to address it. Unfortunately, that was not doing that. It was only giving a platform to SC, ST, and OBCs to be able to do that, while the general caste students were left out in the cold, and they did not have that particular pathway. Equity squads, through the implicit and explicit nature of discrimination, could take a call. Implicit could mean anything as far as the equity squad is concerned. Would it be through words, through actions, or through some perceptions or preconceived mindset about discrimination? Those were the things which I was speaking about. The Supreme Court has put a stay on it. I welcome it, and I hope the Government of India withdraws this particular guideline and ensures that any guideline that comes into place to address discrimination is not discriminatory in its nature."

Yesterday, you saw that the Solicitor General of India also stated that the points being raised are correct. The Supreme Court has issued its order, and after that, the UGC regulations remain valid. If there was any opposition, it should have been against the Supreme Court, but no such opposition exists. The Supreme Court has made good points. Seventy-five years after independence, everyone should enjoy equal rights..."

As we have been talking about specifically three issues, one is Section 3C which is talking about caste discrimination and in that particular section, the general caste has been excluded and all other castes have been included. So, this particular section has been sending a message that SC, ST and OBC has been discriminated against by the general caste. This was our argument before the CJI and he appreciated our argument and especially stated that what we are saying is correct and if such sections are there, it will definitely be very harsh and discriminatory for the general caste and this should be amended. The other part is in respect of the equity committee which is formed under Section 18 of these new UGC sections. There are no specific representations cited in these particular rules for the general community. CJI also admitted this argument of ours and suggested that it should be formation of a specific committee which includes academicians, social workers who have knowledge on these particular subject and now this matter is posted for 19th March and hopefully something good will happen."

They did not have any communications devices. And the idea that the cocaine had survived, there was no evidence of that. If the public can see that video, they're going to be every bit as troubled as I am. Why do you think they won't release this one? Because it looks bad for them.

jungeun and jeemin our head blinks 😭 🐆: since we’re both blinks, while we were practicing the choreo there were a lot of moments where we talked about things only blinks would know like for our outfits we would go like “oh this outfit is similar to something blackpink wore during a music show” and we’d have these conversations that only we understood 🐱: and the two of us already knew the entire choreography so when we started learning it we were already familiar with all the moves which made it a lot easier for us and it also helped the other members to learn it more easily

I barely managed to escape alive. Otherise, no one knows what might have happened to me. The students were extremely agitated... They were in the thousands... They had actually come to take an exam... But they couldn't get train because there were too few train and too many students..."

I hope Parliament also discusses the police brutality that took place on July 20, how heads were broken and how people were blinded through pellet guns. That accountability also needs to be fixed, not just for the police but also for the Home Minister, who was overseeing all of this in Delhi. So, we are all for discussion. Policies need to be strengthened. They need to be tightened. Stricter regulations need to be brought in, and we welcome any such discussion in Parliament."

#WATCH | Delhi | On Supreme Court grants full pension to women SSC Officers denied permanent commission, Advocate SS Pandey says, “Today, Supreme Court has passed a historical order, the bench was presided by the CJI, in respect of women officers of all the three services – Army, Navy and Air Force. The SC has recognised the fact that since women officers were not being considered for PC, the inputs to derive the merits of the women officers have not been done properly because the reporting officers were not conscious of the fact that these Annual Confidential Reports and other credentials would be used for consideration of PC for the women officers… In the Army, the SC has already found that the women officers have been subjected to systemic discrimination through the cases of Babita Punia and Nitisha… The SC clearly held that all those officers who have completed 60% of qualifying service and were clear from the PC and vigilance angle will be considered and granted PC. The officers who have been victims of systemic discrimination will be permitted to serve for 20 years and will be given a pension on completion of 20 years… In the Air Force’s case, the consideration denied earlier was based on a 2019 policy in which the inputs that were taken into consideration were those that women officers could not have earned during their service. As a result, they were denied PC. Both the male and female officers have been granted consideration for PC or pension… The same goes with the Navy because it was also following a policy of no PC to either men or women… They have also been considered for PC… “

I believe that all sections of society need to be included in this. If any student from any caste or community faces discrimination, they should have the opportunity to file a complaint, and I believe that everyone should be included in this process. I feel that the guidelines provided by the UGC will increase separatism and violate the fundamental rights of the Constitution, and therefore, it will be considered unconstitutional. Secondly, we demand that punitive action be taken against those who file false complaints. Currently, there is no provision for punitive action. We believe that there should be such a provision. Thirdly, we demand that the grievance redressal committee, which has been designated as the Equal Opportunity Centre, should have representation from all sections of society. Furthermore, the committee's timeframe, scope, jurisdiction, and other details should be clearly defined. We also met with a delegation today. We discussed all these points with them. We also met with Dharmendra Pradhan, the Education Minister."
