Sam, you are trying to be clever by half, but your illogical submission here exposed your hypocrisy and hatred for the truth. You claimed you wrote Sen. Ken Nnamani’s “iconic speech” as his Assistant on Research, but the then Senate President never gave a lengthy speech on the Senate floor when the Third Term Bill was defeated. Nnamani simply said: “The Senate has clearly and eloquently stated that we will discontinue further processes on this amendment bill.” So, in which speech did Nnamani mention the names of people who opposed Obasanjo’s Third Term? If Nnamani read any speech (as you claimed) praising those who fought against the Third Term Bill, it certainly wasn’t while he was still the Senate President under Obasanjo. Sam, you are free to grandstand and tinker with history just because you have morbid contempt for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. But downplaying his role in resisting Obasanjo’s bid for a third term is at best deliberate mischief. Tinubu was the sitting Lagos Governor when Obasanjo schemed to change the constitution for a third term. Lagos had three Senators, and all three actively participated in the Third Term issue. Two of these Lagos Senators, Tokunbo Afikuyomi and Olorunnimbe Mamora, were completely loyal to Tinubu. The last of the Lagos Senators, Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, had already switched loyalty, joining the PDP, which was Obasanjo’s party at the time. Afikuyomi and Mamora openly campaigned against Obasanjo’s Third Term agenda, while Obanikoro tacitly supported it. How can you now claim Tinubu wasn’t at the forefront of the politicians who campaigned against Obasanjo’s unconstitutional third-term agenda? For clarity, I never intended to attribute the anti-third term effort solely to Tinubu. I knew many people including Senators, Reps, Governors and frontline politicians of the period were involved in the campaign and my previous tweet did not seek to diminish their efforts. I simply highlighted efforts by Tinubu as the then sole Governor of AD in the Southwest, which was Obasanjo’s home base. Even your boss, Sen. Ken Nnamani, after his Senate Presidency, mentioned Tinubu as one of those who helped defeat Obasanjo’s third-term bid. It is not possible to rewrite history in 2026, simply because you dislike Tinubu’s personality. For the sake of truth (if you care about it), listen to former Gov. Orji Uzor Kalu, now Senator, who confirmed Tinubu was among the sitting governors who thwarted Obasanjo’s third-term attempt.
