Having watched the maritime tracker it looks as though the cargo ship intentionally sailed directly at the oil tanker. Even with a huge turning circle it had plenty of time and distance to avoid it.

Odds on the cargo ship on Auto Pilot and nobody on watch. The oil tanker anchors down and again nobody on watch. Or did they have their AIS switched off 🤔
