Ah, I can almost hear the sound of my white cleanroom safety shoes sticking to the tacky mat :D

@jwt0625 Would you be willing to release the plans and BOM by any chance? 🙏

@jwt0625 I'd be happy to help! but it's kinda like building a house? haha every shed/space is unique! But it used standard semiconductor grade and commercial materials. For me it cost ~20k, expensive but not astronomical if you have a goal.

What the hell. This is beyond ridiculous. Craft beer but for semis 👌🏻😂

@yacineMTB Do you have a current upper limit on the number of transistors you can make on a chip? The early 8 bit CPUs had only a few thousand.

@yacineMTB Right now I can do sub-micron features reliably (1990s) and working on i-line immersion which can do sub-100nm (2004ish). But as fun as it would be to make chips (and may for future content) these aren't viable at this scale otherwise, so I mostly do R&D for novel devices.

Can't wait to see what you are doing with GaN and the blue LED

Matthew Hartensveld, PhD 的头像

Hey you recognized it! I do a lot of GaN research, including in the shed, where as fun as it would be to make chips from the 90s-2000s it isn't profitable at this scale, maybe for youtube content though? Otherwise I do more R&D on GaN for single devices.

Of course. Personally I'd just like to see how exactly you did it at all. Surely the GaN had to be MOCVD produced off site, but beyond that I don't really know.

Offsite MOCVD...for now... haha but then there are some novel chemical treatments and fabrication mechanisms. LEDs are also pretty simple, etch and slap some metal on there :P

Class 100? How many classes are there?

Matthew Hartensveld, PhD 的头像
Matthew Hartensveld, PhD8 个月前

Haha they are rough guides in terms of particles per box of air per min, but they roughly go by orders of magnitude, 1, 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000 etc. All depending on the job, like if you are making circuit boards it may be class 10,000, you dont need it as clean.

Outdoor air can have a far lower particulate matter count than inside. Use a glove box for even better results.

The filtration and air makeup alone would be larger than several of those 'sheds'🙄
