In this video, I respond to the firestorm over my recent X posts about Candace Owens and her husband, and why I still believe he should have stepped in long before things got this dangerous.​ Candace has built a massive platform and, like her or not, you have to respect the work it took to get there. But when your own words say you’d stop if your husband told you to, and you’re now dealing with hate, vitriol, and even alleged death threats, I believe a husband has a duty to protect his wife, his marriage, and his kids.​ In this sit-down, I walk through my original X videos, read some of the wild comments, clarify what I meant by “control,” and explain why real love sometimes means saying, “Enough.”

Doesn’t really sound like a woman who “just assumed Erika was going to be a girlfriend” or a woman who knew at the time “there was just something off with Erika.” This is just another way Candace is rewriting history in real time. On First Take there was a conversation that happened on the show involving Rob Parker. Rob Parker talked about was I a brother? Was I a real brother? Was I really down for the cause? Do you know what his point was for asking that question? It had nothing to do with sports. It had nothing to do with my performance on the field. It was because my fiancé was white. It was because he THOUGHT I was a Republican. He made First Take in that moment, a political forum for personal attacks and political conversations. Stephen A. that single conversation has followed for 13 years of my professional career… When people in the black community disagree with me what do they do? They start posting Rob Parker memes. You can’t find a single instance of someone questioning my blackness before that conversation happened on First Take. Stephen A. that’s why I feel sports shows on television should be about sports and not made political…..that stuff sticks.
