There's a difference between normal people spending money and really rich people spending money. And it explains why our economy is failing.

Inflation bruv, why do you never talk about inflation? Why don't you talk about monetary expansion? Why? Because this is what happens in every socialist country, they expand the money supply and where does that money go?

House prices have gone through the roof because our country is being flooded with migrants We have no houses for these ppl, which obviously inflates the price but also the rent goes up because government put the migrants in the rentals. It’s not rocket science

This is ludicrous. Gazza has an economics degree - two in fact. If all the money goes to those who just spend it then whre the hell is in the investment going to come from? Someone, somewhere, has to be saving and investing.....

Poor people don't want any assets. They know self promoting delusionist utopian grifters like Stevenson will find a way to relieve them of some of their value and give it to the workshy.

Yeh, cos the reason they’re billionaires in the first place is because they invested money rather than spend it on pointless shite

Hi @andyburnham have a listen to this The best way to stimulate the economy is to let people keep more of their own money Raising the tax-free allowance would boost the incomes of the lowest earners, increase consumer spending, and support businesses on our high streets And at the other end, tax the rich

Dude, you were in an interview claiming you paid the top rate of tax on 100% of your earnings. You are not qualified to have this discussion in the mirror, let alone in public.

Yes, rich people spend more money than normal people, which is great for local businesses and the people who work in them. Which part of that is wrong?

Wealthy people still spend lots of money, but their excess is invested in entities that create jobs and wealth. What wrecks economies is lots of inflation, which comes from govt overspending. This is basic stuff.

And you might want to check out how your theories are going in New York right now. I can guarantee no member of my family can afford to live in Manhattan anymore, and my uncle moved his aircraft parts factories to Florida but the family lives in the USVI. Are you noticing a trend at all.

Yes, when really rich people spend money, they contribute more to the economy through unavoidable consumption taxes. A 12x case of Château Lafite Rothschild, 1982 vintage, that goes for as much as £37,000, would bank £6,167 in VAT for the Exchequer in a single transaction...

When people constantly move their eyes to the right or left whilst trying to explain their view point. 99% they're full of shit. Now watch Gary.

He’s so close. So close. He doesn’t understand the assets are taking the place of the money in terms of reliability. When assets behave more stable than the supposedly stable money, you get asset inflation. Then he sites standard of living dropping, but never sites the government money printing that ushers that in. And the last thing he doesn’t understand is you can buy 1 ounce of gold, or even less, silver, you can buy five dollars of bitcoin for crying out loud. This is not some exclusive club. You can buy fractions of a stock. The list goes on. And incidentally, he’s pointing out why the wealthy are informed and behave smart, and the poor do not. It’s all right there. He’s saying it right out loud.

So assets aren't rising because the government prints money out of thin air, causing rampant inflation and making scarce assets more valuable because the £ has been devalued?

Gary never talks about reforming the broken parliametary system in the UK. All he talks about is taxing the rich, which is ultimately a square peg round hole solution. Britain needs to get rid of the authoritarian management class in Whitehall, it needs to get rid of the quangos and planning mafias. It needs to completely reform planning laws in the country. It needs to completely reform energy policies. Growth is the only path forward, not redistribution which in a best case scenario will only plaster over the issues. Gary is being used as a useful idiot by the authoritarian managerial class.

Give it a rest you sour leftie. You cannot get rid inequality. It's a fact of life, some people succeed whilst others don't You are full of hate and need a good wash. The fact that Labour are talking to you shows what a disaster they will be. You don't even understand basic tax.

It’s been my argument for a while now that a wealth tax would reduce inflation so nice to hear @garyseconomics address it. I’m not envious of the rich, but taxes address inflation, per Econ 101, and the rich won’t miss the money.

I N F L A T I O N. When governments print more money, money becomes less valuable, which means assets are worth more money. Not because of anyone spending money. You could tax every “rich” person fucking 80% of their wealth and it’s not going to fix the economy, is it?

As of 2026, Gary Stevenson's net worth is estimated to be around $3.6 billion. This wealth has been accumulated through his successful career as a trader and investor, particularly in high-growth sectors such as technology, real estate, and renewable energy. Hypocrisy.

Gary - we don’t need a wealth tax rather we need transparency on how the govt spends money. I work in local gov and I have seen them squander millions of pounds. National gov literally billions. What’s your response to that?

Government spending is an economic multiplier, not a core part of the economic cycle. If your economy is largely dependant on gov spending to maintain growth, you have a failing economy. Increased spending only creates a need for more taxation, which leads to more spending

Rich people spend more money on bigger ticket items therefore generating more revenue for the exchequer. There you go fixed it for you you fiscally inept idiot. You haven’t got the first clue about basic taxation yet claim to be a “financial expert”. Did Rachel do your CV for you
