Over a rolling 10 year period, you have about 40 stocks that compound wealth at 20% a year or go up ~6x. So about 1%. I read the shareholder letters and tried to understand what drove the success of the New Horizon Fund. It was really only 20 stocks over 50 years that drove the performance. Walmart first came public as a super small company. And this is definitely one of the 20 stocks that mattered. But, unfortunately, it was sold. I was managing about $8 billion, and had the stake in Walmart not been sold, it would have been greater than the sum total of everything that I was managing. I love small cap companies because I love the people side of the job, but I also love them because 80% of these great companies actually start as small caps."

Breadth is overrated. If you're trading the absolute best, leading stocks in the market, why does it matter what the thousands of other random stocks are doing? In bull markets, the best stocks can make monster moves for weeks/months on end while breadth inches lower and lower. And in bear markets (when breadth is bad), what good does it do to know where market breadth is if you're still going to only be trading the best of the best stocks based on the merit of the setups/stocks? It's just noise... Breadth was falling off a cliff in December 2024 as Quantum Computing stocks made some of the biggest speculative moves of this decade. Breadth diverged against the indexes and leading stocks for nearly 2 full years from mid-1998 to 2000, one of the best periods to trade of ALL TIME. Pundits and bears in the media would constantly harp on about how breadth was hitting 12-month lows while indexes continued going higher. Even Dan Zanger in Sept 1999 (a month before the NASDAQ exploded 50% higher in 2 months) expressed worry about the Accumulation/Distribution being "far more pronounced to the downside today than was 1929 and similar to 1987." However, he was right to say that "This in no way implies a crash, but does imply a high level of risk." And guess what he did? Qullamaggie on Best Trading Books “There’s a couple more. These are the best ones. How to Make Money in Stocks by William O’Neil. This is just so good. I think it’s a fourth edition, the latest one. It’s just timeless. If you understand this, it catches everything that makes a stock make big moves. Every bull market there are certain stocks that make huge moves. This methodology developed CANSLIM. Pretty much you look for stocks that have price momentum and earnings momentum. Pretty much the same way I trade. Well, I used to trade before the market crashed and stopped me out of everything. It’s super super good. Then Reminiscences of a Stock Operator. It’s about Jesse Livermore, one of the most famous traders of all time. There are so many timeless lessons in this book. It’s just incredibly good. And we have the Market Wizards books, which are interviews by Jack Schwager of a bunch of successful traders. There’s so many good lessons in here. I think there’s three or four of these books he’s been releasing, like every five to eight years. I recommend all of them. Yeah, Reminiscences of a Stock Operator is just so good. Kovell, Trend Following is pretty good too. I have that one in ebook format. I don’t have it in physical format but I should probably order it. Trend Following by Kovell. I agree this is a pretty good one too. There’s maybe a few more.”

If you know you should have been trading the solars, the EV names, or the spec names over the past six months, you probably have been trading the wrong stocks. If you haven’t at least traded some solar or speck, or EV battery names. You’re up 550% this year. Yeah, that’s good, but 40% is still good as well, though it also depends if you’re using margin or not. If you’re up 20% in the past month and a half without using any margin, that’s still good. It’s not bad at all, it’s okay. The key is to outperform; that really is the key. If the market is up 10%, you should be up 30% or 50%. That’s really the point of why we are here. That’s why you focus on these higher ADR stocks because we know we don’t bother with the slow stocks. Let the mediocre traders trade the slow stocks, the low momentum stocks, and the sectors that are not hot. Let other people trade them. We want to be where the money is; that’s our job.”

One of the best performing stocks over 10 years. You can see it spent like, what, 2/3 of the time in a drawdown. Now it's in a drawdown again. Where this ends, who knows. That's just how it works. No matter how good or bad your returns are, you're gonna spend most of the time in a drawdown. No matter what. You have a big momentum stock, it builds a channel this way. You have a big momentum stock, it maybe does something like this with higher lows. You have a big momentum stock, it maybe goes up a lot and then maybe does something like this. These triangles and channels. High-tight flags. It's the same patterns over and over again. It doesn't matter if you learn them from Minervini, Dan Zanger, it's the same things, or Stockbee, right? It's the same things over and over. It's just so easy. You just need to train your brain to see these patterns on the strongest stocks. That's the key. The strongest stocks, not some random piece of shit. People keep posting these random stocks that have these bull flags, but you need the strongest stocks. You don't have an edge trading some random shit stock that happens to have a good chart pattern. I get these every day, people are posting and asking me about them. It has to be a momentum leader. Just the same patterns over... just look at the stocks I'm in, right? NVDA, I bought it last week, okay? Very simple. A big momentum stock, look at the pattern. What is it? Do you see this? Do you see this pattern? I bought it here. NIO, I bought it a couple of days ago. What's the pattern, right? Do you see it? I bought it on this day here, like somewhere here, right? LVGO, what's the pattern? Okay, I bought it here, so it was a little bit of a chase. FSLY, I bought it here. What's the pattern? You see this? DDOG, where did I buy it? I bought it here. This wasn't a clean one, but it was showing relative strength. But again, same patterns. You see higher lows and Z, I bought it here. I also bought it here initially. The same patterns over and over again. There's absolutely no rocket science involved. Anyone who's trying to sell you rocket science, just unfollow them and run the other way. They're all frauds. They don't make any money. Same thing, these simple patterns: triangles, channels, high-tight flags. We bought TSLA here, right? Same thing. I bought TSLA here, right? Same thing. I also bought TSLA down here. Same thing. This is just the same patterns over and over again. All you have to do to succeed in the stock market is don't be a fucking retard. Really. I mean, really. That's all you have to do. You don't need any intelligence to make tens of millions. All you need to know is risk management, portfolio management, and these patterns. And then you need to have sit-out power when the market is bad. That's all you need. You literally need five things. And yes, CRWD... where did I buy it? On this day here. You see the pattern. LAC, I bought it here. You see the pattern. I bought it here, or was it here? I don't remember. One of... the same thing over and over again. Exactly, the big... yeah, exactly. All the... Zanger, Jesse Livermore, Darvas, Ruppel, O'Neil... exactly, it's the same thing. They're all momentum traders. They trade these momentum stocks, relative strength stocks, the stocks that funds are dying to get in, okay? You want the stocks that the funds want to buy, okay? The funds leave footprints, the big institutions, they leave footprints. Your job is to sniff out the stocks the funds are buying. You don't want some piece-of-shit random stock. You're never going to make money over time. You want buyers coming in after you.

The same patterns over and over again. There's absolutely no rocket science involved. Anyone who's trying to sell you rocket science, just unfollow them and run the other way. They're all frauds. They don't make any money. Same thing, these simple patterns: triangles, channels, high-tight flags. We bought TSLA here, right? Same thing. I bought TSLA here, right? Same thing. I also bought TSLA down here. Same thing. This is just the same patterns over and over again. All you have to do to succeed in the stock market is don't be a fucking retard. Really. I mean, really. That's all you have to do. You don't need any intelligence to make tens of millions. All you need to know is risk management, portfolio management, and these patterns. And then you need to have sit-out power when the market is bad. That's all you need. You literally need five things. And yes, CRWD... where did I buy it? On this day here. You see the pattern. LAC, I bought it here. You see the pattern. I bought it here, or was it here? I don't remember. One of... the same thing over and over again. Exactly, the big... yeah, exactly. All the... Zanger, Jesse Livermore, Darvas, Ruppel, O'Neil... exactly, it's the same thing. They're all momentum traders. They trade these momentum stocks, relative strength stocks, the stocks that funds are dying to get in, okay? You want the stocks that the funds want to buy, okay? The funds leave footprints, the big institutions, they leave footprints. Your job is to sniff out the stocks the funds are buying. You don't want some piece-of-shit random stock. You're never going to make money over time. You want buyers coming in after you.

People post setups all the time, and this is the hard part — identifying a really good setup versus something that’s random and mediocre. Because that’s gonna also reflect on your results. If you trade the random setups, your results are gonna be random too. You want to find the outlier stocks. You want to see if it has relative strength. The best time to trade this breakout method is after a pullback in the markets. You want to see the stocks that held up the most — the ones that had big moves previously and held up the most. And if you master this setup, if you trade this setup coming out of a small correction, like say a 5-10 or 15% correction in the overall indices, that’s almost like free money for this type of setup. Because if you can identify the stocks that held up the most during the correction — that maybe went down initially but then stopped going down as the correction went on, and actually started building higher lows — that’s telling you something. If you have a stock that’s gone up a lot, and then it stops going down when the market goes down, you know the stock is trying to tell you something. And that’s what leading stocks do. Like every bull market, this is obviously the case. I’m gonna talk more about it later. You obviously need an up-trending or sideways market to trade this method. You have leading stocks — the stocks that go up the most and are the most liquid. And those are really the stocks you want to trade. All You Need Is Here —— 13 Qullamaggie's Stock and ETF Scans Intraday Scans "Which screen filters my scans? Sure. This is my 'Strongest' scan. These scans are for a specific watchlist I have of the strongest stocks—most of them are growth stocks. Then, like EPs, these are stocks that gap up 7.5% or are up at least 7.5% above yesterday's price, with at least $15 million in dollar volume. Then I have my Momentum watchlist. It’s also a specific watchlist where I pretty much scan for stocks that are up today in that watchlist above yesterday’s highs. This OTC scan... you don’t have to look at that, I’m gonna take it off. I don’t trade OTCs ever; they’ve been dead for many years. For my ETF scan, I look for $30 million in dollar volume and a 6% ADR (Average Daily Range). Then I have Lower Liquidity / Higher ADR scans. These are pretty much stocks that are not very liquid but have a very high ADR, so you can take a smaller position and still make decent money because the stock is likely to make a bigger move. So those are my intraday scans." Weekend & Overnight Scans "Then I have my weekend and overnight scans, which I use to build my watchlists. Pretty much, I scan for the strongest stocks on every timeframe—like one month, six months, three months, two years, one and a half years, etc. They all look the same: $60 million in dollar volume, 3.5% ADR, and ranked among the 7% strongest.
