Bystanders and eventually lifeguards jumped into action to pull the boys from the sand. “Once that sand gets wet it gets heavy. It basically buried them from their waist down. They couldn't get themselves out,” said Captain Mark Herman. This could’ve gone much worse. Source: Fox 11

Happy Airwolf Sunday! 😎 The final scene from the pilot episode, “Shadow of the Hawke” filmed at the Imperial Sand Dunes in Southern California which are the largest mass of sand dunes in the state. They really did fly this Bell 222 through sand clouds produced by explosions set off for this sequence and that’s why you see Airwolf covered in sand. There was an article written about the mechanics that had to clean the sand out of the engine filters after filming this scene. I’ll have to find the article one of these days that describes it.
