This is pure insanity. Britain is still (for now) a non-Muslim country, so we don’t have to treat first-cousin marriage as some sacred cultural right just because it’s common in certain communities. The medical evidence is not subtle: it roughly doubles the risk of congenital anomalies and contributes to higher rates of serious genetic disorders, developmental problems and child deaths. The debate over first-cousin marriage raises a much bigger question about immigration and integration in Britain. When people move to a new country, surely the expectation should be that they adapt to the values and culture of their new home - not that the host country continually adapts to theirs. If newcomers aren't expected to adapt to British culture, what exactly does integration mean?

Cousin marriage is insular and prevents migrant communities from successfully integrating with wider British society. That alone is reason enough to prohibit it. People who settle in this country must join with us, not form separate colonies limited by tribe, race or culture.
