The ongoing record-breaking heat wave in the West will continue while expanding across the Central U.S. through the weekend. Based on preliminary data, there have been around 50 March high temperature records broken since March 17 and more than 150 daily high temperature records broken. Record setting temperatures are expected to continue over the next several days. Most areas will see temperature departures of 25 to 35 degrees higher than normal for this time of year. However, some locations in the central Plains on Saturday could see departures exceed 40 degrees from normal! Overnight low temperatures will also be well above average, providing little relief from the heat. The early time of year, prolonged nature of this heat wave, and limited seasonal acclimation will increase the risk of heat impacts especially among sensitive populations or those without effective cooling. Adjust plans to limit strenuous outdoor activities to early morning hours, drink plenty of fluids, and seek air conditioned spaces. For more heat safety tips visit:

Most of Kyiv is without electricity, there's not enough even for critical infrastructure after the Russian attacks. Many are without heating, as well. A lot of stores have to close because generators cannot cope in the cold. Most trolleybuses and trams stopped due to lack of electricity. It is -11 degrees Celsius in Kyiv. Low temperatures will persist for at least another week, probably more. Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure are pure terror of civilians, especially the most vulnerable people. Russia must answer for its war crimes.

the date? july 3rd. the place? east gigglegrub community garden. the occasion? one of the coldest july days on record, a bone-quivering -18 degrees fahrenheit (about 246 degrees kelvin). with the freeze only hours away, local gardeners at gigglegrub's largest outdoor community garden rushed to protect their crops from impending doom... that is, until one hero goatnar stepped up to the challenge. standing valiantly besides a large industrial fan, our main character deftly executed the valsalva maneuver, skyrocketing his internal body temperature to a head-throbbing 1,000 degrees celsius (like 1800 degrees fahrenheit, i think? idk). thanks to his quick thinking and his special gift, almost all of the crops were saved. however, not everyone was so lucky. goatnar would eventually turn to a pile of ash, in large part due to the cellular damage inflicted by hours spent at such a high temperature. in addition, an elderly woman servicing the garden was vaporized when goatnar attempted to take a bite of her coat.
