Meet our new little lady! 🐘🩶 Our Asian elephant herd has officially grown by one tiny trunk with the birth of a healthy baby girl – Bluebonnet’s first female calf (third overall) and Brazos’ little sister! This bundle of joy was born in the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 18, to mom, Bluebonnet, the very first elephant calf born in the history of the Zoo back in 1998. Over the past month, our new little one has remained behind the scenes, bonding with mom and integrating into our multi-generational herd. And the best part? Today, she makes her debut on-habitat in Elephant Springs for all to see! (You can now see her daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting)🤗 The only thing this baby is missing is … a name! During a safari trip, a baby elephant (only a few months old) was extremely curious and stubborn, repeatedly using its trunk to touch, explore, and even trying to climb into a tourist bus 💖 The mother elephant became very worried. She used her trunk to pull her baby back several times, gently pushed it away, and tried to guide it somewhere else. But the little elephant refused to listen, clinging to the vehicle like it was a “brand-new toy.” Eventually, the mother elephant had to use the trick of “pretending to walk away” so that the baby would follow her back. Before the whole herd left, she even waved her trunk as if saying, “Sorry, my baby is being a little too mischievous.” 🐘💗

A baby elephant fell into a man-made waterhole after stopping for a drink and was too small to climb back out on its own. Panicked, the mother elephant rushed to her calf's side and tried everything she could to help, but she was unable to free it. She also stood guard, protecting her baby from potential predators while waiting for help to arrive. Fortunately, a rescue team quickly reached the scene by helicopter. Using ropes and teamwork, they carefully pulled the stranded calf to safety. As soon as it was rescued, the baby elephant immediately ran to find its mother. The emotional reunion was heartwarming, and the mother elephant even appeared to bow her head as if thanking the rescuers for saving her precious calf. 🐘💞
