There is an old Chinese intuition: those who have once been soaked by the rain learn, instinctively, to hold up an umbrella for others. Every generation in China carries this impulse. We don’t want to pass the Taiwan question to the next generation. We don’t want to pass the scars of Japanese invasion to the next generation. We don’t want to pass the humiliation of the Opium Wars to the next generation. We don’t want to pass down a wounded, resource-starved nation to the next generation. A civilization remembers its pain so that its children don’t have to repeat it. China isn’t afraid of Japan. China isn’t afraid of America. China is afraid of repeating history. History is not a video game to Chinese people. We remember it in names, in graves, in family stories whispered at dinner tables. So don’t mistake restraint for fear. This is the dumbest commentary on China I’ve heard yet: Fox News host Jesse Watters calls China an “American colony” because it has 20,000 McDonalds, Taco Bells, and KFCs. You know what else China has that America doesn’t? Universal healthcare, social housing, and the best modern infrastructure in the world. While the US is investing in its wars and oligarchs, China is investing in its people. China is a colony for its people, while America is a colony for the billionaires who exploit us.

🇺🇸In the USA, a million people are homeless, and turning to alcohol and drugs to cope. While millions of homes are empty in the USA. 🇨🇳In China, there is next to no homelessness, and illegal drug use is nearly non-existent. China literally builds homes for its poorest people. These are homes for Nomadic families in Xizang, China. The homes in Chacuo Village were funded by the Chinese gov as part of its targeted poverty alleviation. Funding covered homes, electricity, sanitation, roads, and even community services, and free vocational training to help them develop the skills to help themselves. I am NOT saying love China and hate the USA. I am saying that our governent, in the United States of America, can do better. We have more money per capita than China. If China can take care of its poorest people, so can we. We have a moral obligation to our fellow citizens. China does it. We can too. So, let's do it! Who's with me?
