This is Shahed drone but not the same ‘world famous’ Delta wing Shahed. This is Shahed-101, a loitering munition drone that attacked the fuel storage site in Erbil. Shahed-101 struck a Castrol linked warehouse at Sardar Group facility. How is ‘101’ different from ‘136’? Shahed-101, a 26 KG drone uses electric motor, so it does not make noise like ‘136’ or Arash drones. It can go upto 1500 km with 8 KG warhead. On the other hand, a 200 KG Shahed-136 uses a piston engine and it can go upto 2500 km with 50 KG warhead. So Shahed-101 is a new weapon in this war with low cost saturation tactics against million dollar interceptors. They can hit Israel.

According to Flagman, the UAV was in “deplorable condition,” missing its tail and right wing — signs it may have been shot down. A similar incident occurred exactly a month ago, on August 12, when another crashed drone was discovered near Burgas. At the time, media suggested it could have been a Russian reconnaissance drone, an Orlan-10, lost during one of Moscow’s attacks on Ukraine.

On Tuesday, December 16, the U.S. Navy carried out the first-ever-launch of a new one-way attack drone, a copy of an Iranian Shahed-136, from the flight deck of the Independence-class littoral combat ship, USS Santa Barbara (LCS-32), while transiting the Arabian Sea. The drone, dubbed the Low-cost Unmanned Combat Attack System (LUCAS), was launched and operated by Task Force 59 part of Task Force Scorpion Strike, a one-way attack drone squadron recently deployed to the Middle East.

Trump has denied statements from the Pentagon and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky stating that the United States had requested and been granted direct assistance from Ukraine in order to help counter the threat posed by Iranian one-way attack drones across the Middle East. Kilmeade: “Are they [Ukraine] helping us with drone defense too?” Trump: “No, we don't need their help with drone defense. We know more about drones than anybody. We have the best drones in the world, actually.”

No casualties or material damage have been reported so far. Romania’s Defence Ministry said the drone was not detected by its radar systems, as it was flying at very low altitude. A MApN team, supported by an IAR Puma SOCAT helicopter, is investigating the crash site. A RO-Alert was issued for northern Tulcea County around 11:45 amid an air alert. This marks the 4th reported breach involving a Russian drone in Romania in less than 48 hours, following three separate Russian drone violations of Romanian airspace on Thursday.
