The AI infrastructure race just went underwater. A Portland, Oregon startup called Panthalassa just raised $140 million in a Series B round led by Peter Thiel, the idea sounds wild until you understand the physics. Every AI data center on Earth has the same three problems, it needs massive amounts of electricity, it generates enormous heat that has to be cooled, and it requires land in places that are already running out of grid capacity. Panthalassa's answer is to eliminate all three constraints at once by taking the data center off the grid, off the land, and into the open ocean. And here's how it works, the company builds autonomous, self-propelled floating nodes made from plate steel, no anchor, no fuel, no cable to shore. As waves lift the platform, water is forced through an internal turbine, generating electricity continuously. That electricity runs AI inference chips onboard and the results go back to shore via low-Earth-orbit satellite. The surrounding ocean provides free supercooling, which one investor estimates could generate power at roughly two cents per kilowatt-hour. For context on why this matters, land based data centers spend up to 40% of their total energy budget just on cooling. Microsoft's Project Natick found that submerged servers had a failure rate of just 0.7% compared to 5.9% on land. The ocean doesn't just solve the cost problem but it solves the reliability problem too. Panthalassa's Ocean 3 pilot nodes are already under construction, with deployment in the northern Pacific targeted for August 2026 and commercial operations in 2027. The company has been building toward this for a decade with Ocean-1, Ocean-2, and Wavehopper prototypes already validated at sea, including a test in Puget Sound in 2024. The global underwater data center market was $3.2 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $14.8 billion by 2034. China has already launched commercial-scale undersea data centers. The race to compute off the grid whether in space, underwater, or on the open ocean is no longer theoretical, it's being funded, permitted, and in Panthalassa's case, it's being built right now. This is Amazon's new $11 billion AI data center campus in St. Joseph County, Indiana. It will draw 2.2 gigawatts of electricity - the output of a large power plant, enough to supply 1 million homes. For years the public was told energy had to be rationed: use less, dismantle reliable sources, accept scarcity - all to save the planet. That story has now been abandoned. AI requires massive continuous electricity to power the data centers, and AI is now seen as the superior control system. So energy is no longer a liability. It is a strategic necessity. Power will now come from wherever. Whatever works. Whatever scales. The climate narrative was tossed out the moment AI dominance became the new priority. Power was to be rationed. Now it is required. Power was the problem. Now it is the solution.

NEWS: SpaceX just made its AI space computer 67% more powerful, Elon Musk says The satellite is called AI1. It is basically a data center that floats in space and runs on sunlight instead of the power grid. Musk says its peak power is going up to ~250 kW, from 150 kW. Its average power is going up to 160 kW, from 120 kW. Why the boost. A single Nvidia Rubin NVL72 rack, 72 of Nvidia's newest AI chips, needs that much power to run. The bigger number means one AI1 can now handle a full rack. Musk's reasoning is simple. A GPU running all day uses about two-thirds of its peak power, even when it is very efficient. So the satellite has to be built for the peak. AI1 works with chips from any maker, not just Nvidia. SpaceX has filed to launch up to 1 million of these satellites. (Source: Elon Musk on X, July 16)

Is uranium the future of AI? As demand for cloud computing and AI models continues to explode, the real bottleneck is becoming power. That’s what led me to start looking at nuclear energy and uranium. Small modular reactors could become a major part of the solution, and if AI keeps demanding more electricity, the commodities that power that infrastructure could become just as important as the chips themselves.

Is uranium the future of AI? As demand for cloud computing and AI models continues to explode, the real bottleneck is becoming power. That’s what led me to start looking at nuclear energy and uranium. Watches, rings, AI glasses, medical devices, all use their chips because they are best at running neural networks at very low power. I've been touring the suites all morning, getting a look at augmented reality AI glasses. It's quite clear that the Pickle glasses are not possible with today's technology, and I'll have a video up someday soon about that with several different vendors. So agree with others that it is selling something that isn’t currently possible to manufacture. I got a look at the latest state-of-the-art technologies that go into the glasses, and this is the first part of that. This gives you a lot of insights into the future.

These companies are so desperate to profit from the AI boom that they are racing to construct thousands of giant AI data centers, jacking up utility costs for everyday Americans to pay for them. These data centers power thousands of high-intensity computer chips that are processing constantly and require massive amounts of energy to operate. Just one hyperscale data center consumes the same amount of energy in one second as 100,000 households. Because of this massive energy use, power and water utility companies must build multibillion-dollar infrastructure to keep up with the demand.

It’s smarter data centers. $NBIS is already doing it. In the UK, with National Grid, $NVDA, and Emerald AI, they proved they can cut power usage by up to 40% in under a minute—without impacting critical workloads. Data centers are becoming a grid resource, not a liability. The more I study $NBIS, the more bullish I get.

Europe is completely irrelevant in AI and doomed already. It takes 10 years to build a new data center in Germany, as there is no power, and they are turning off nuclear power plants. The US won't let China win, so we could be at the beginning stages of an energy boom. The question is which stocks will benefit from this boom the most?

Crypto and AI all boils down to power. Everything else doesn’t matter. If you don’t have the power, you’re screwed. Half the data center announcements that you’ve heard of are never gonna get built. You heard it here first. They were all announced eighteen to twenty-four months ago, and they made the assumption that they were just gonna call up their local power authority and just attach to the grid. There’s no power left on the grid. So all of these guys that announced these data centers attached to the grid are gonna get told sorry, it’s not possible. And all those turbines are going to come onto the markets, and companies like BITZERO are gonna get them because they have the contracts for sub six cents.
