They hate the World they stole.

That's what makes me think it was a "good" empire, or else why would they destroy it. Maybe to hide it's history, but even that doesn't explain the mockery they do with the remaining buildings, it does seems like some evil group took over.

I won't say it looks pretty but at least it kept part of it.
