From “The Giants Life” on the Giants website and social media pages, which showed some of the behind the scenes of the 2026 NFL Draft: When the Giants were getting closer to being back on the clock again with the No. 10 pick, Giants GM Joe Schoen gets a trade offer for that pick from an unknown team. It was clear though that the Giants were targeting Francis Mauigoa all along with the pick, but Schoen and John Harbaugh weren’t sure if the team trying to trade up would try to take him or if another team would. Schoen mentions that if Mauigoa got picked, the Giants likely make the deal, although they would have given up No. 37 for what likely would have been a trade for a first round pick swap and the Giants getting another first round pick back. Given who was still had picks available when the Giants were waiting, the trade offer might have been from the Dolphins, who at the time, had No. 11 and No. 30 to deal. And they did take Kadyn Proctor at No. 12 after trading with the Cowboys. However, once the Browns took Spencer Fano at No. 9, the Giants immediately submitted the draft card for Mauigoa.

The situation was reversed in the 1966 AFL Championship Game, when the Bills were going for a 3-peat, trying to win their third straight AFL title. Odell Beckham JR in a recent interview speaking on not wanting to leaving the #Giants “I never wanted to leave the Giants” “If the Giants won the Super Bowl I’d be happy but deep down I wanted to be the one to bring another one” Regardless of how you feel about Odell, prime OBJ was one of the most electric WRs in the NFL on a HOF pace, he was a globally known figure and arguably the most talented WR to suit up in a #NYGiants uniform…what could’ve been. Fans showed up early JUST to watch his Pre Game warm ups and the insane catches he made to hype the crowd up. Whether if you were a #NewYorkGiants fan or not you tuned it to see what big play or spectacular catch Odell was going to have that game. He was a true difference maker and game changer for the Giants in his prime, a home-run play waiting to happen and you knew it was coming. I wish things had went differently for him in New York but I’ll always appreciate Odell Beckham Jr for what he brought to the Giants and how bad he wanted to win.
