They say the PGA Championship lacks an identity. I’ve got a solution!

THE PGA should be played at the "cool" courses out there that people want to see like at @BandonDunesGolf or @LandmandG I think playing at tour stops really hurts the interest in this tournament

This was tried in the World Golf Championships and the final pairings routinely were terrible for the excitement and viewership.

TV is worried about not enough drama and name recognition with the final match in a match play bracket. So flip it. Thursday, Friday - 128 players in a match bracket. Cut down to 64 player bracket on Friday. Then 32 player, 36 hole shootout on Saturday and Sunday

Or, how about a rota of 5-6 courses that are NOT played by other PGA events? Hazeltine, Bandon, Whistling, Merion, Cypress, Pine Valley?

Pick great courses

The Pros will never agree to this. I like the Match Play event, but I feel like a major should be a 72-hole event. The big issue is it's in May now, and they can't go to some good courses anymore. The setup feels like a weekly event this year.

Match play is an awful way to reward the most deserving champion. Shoot 64 and get bounced by someone shooting 63 while someone else moves on shooting a 72. Only works well for team events

Wasn’t this traditionally held after the opens?

I think you answered your own question; it doesn’t happen bc the economics don’t support it. Same reason the WGC moved to pool play rather than a 64-man bracket.

Just move it around the world. Stick it on a links in Australia for example. Give nations that never see a Major a real opportunity…….
