Path 2 MB: Lab Medicine covering Path, Haem, ChemPath, MCB: Four departments decided to bundle their punishment into one exam. A single failure in any one area meant you owed all four a debt; you’d have to rewrite all four, or repeat the year and still face all four again. There was no escaping their ambush. Their mission was simple: To send you home. An exam with 800 questions, apparently set for 3 hours because that's what was printed on the script. I emphasize the word "apparently" because it’s crucial. Stick with me. The examiner waltzed into the exam hall midway through, and without a word of apology, announced that the exam would now only last for 2 hours. And these were no normal MCQs. This was a brutal concoction, with the most torturous of them all the dreaded Type I, II, III, IV stem questions. Choose A if I is true and II explains I. Choose B if I is false but II is true. Choose C if all are untrue except… and so on. The pressure was real, with Negative Marking and Correction Factor lurking in your consciousness. The truth is, you may never fully comprehend the sheer ‘malignancy’ of these situations unless you’ve been through that baptism by fire. Chaos erupted. Students began shouting, lots of murmuring in disbelief. But she just coldly added, "When I say stop writing…if you like, continue.” And then, as if it were nothing, she walked out. I often say there's a reason Nigerian medics develop high blood pressure. Omorr, the adrenaline, cortisol, and noradrenaline that poured that day could power a rocket. In that moment, you realize it’s easier to keep writing than to protest. You remembered what happened the last time an examiner commanded, "Pens up! All stand!
