This just shows how out of touch this government are. I am a parent of children going to college for the past 5 years and with college fees and accommodation in excess of €12,000 per child per year unless you can afford this, you have to take out a loan or your child has to commute.. While Ukrainian students get everything handed to them, with no means test, Irish parents and students are treated like second class citizens in our own country, our government are a total failure.

This just shows how out of touch this government are. The burqa didn’t cause the housing crisis.” I think Pauline’s stunt was stupid, but this is a terrible argument by Fatima Payman. You could give me billions of dollars, solve every single economic need I might ever have, and I would still oppose the burqa because it is extremely repressive and brutal towards women. The reason that hardcore Islamic fundamentalists enforce it on women is because they want to keep women as second class citizens. They want to completely segregate them and cut them off from society. Human beings are social creatures and our sociability depends on countless subtle gestures and facial expressions. The burqa completely cuts that away, robbing women of the ability to partake in the most basic forms of communication. So you can’t just defend the burqa on the basis that it doesn’t impact my rent. I am not just a calculator, I am not just a purely economic being. I am a human being embedded in a wider society and culture. So questions of culture will always be important to me.

Kc saying all the villa girls are giving the Casa boys what they should have been getting is honestly really disgusting to me. That’s such a disrespectful thing to say about women because why are you feeling so entitled to their bodies just because you’re in a couple? Nobody owes anyone physical affection or a certain level of intimacy simply because they’re partnered up. Not by engaging with his arguments. But by reducing an entire human being to a punchline until people stopped questioning where that image came from. And it worked. So yes, if women are now openly saying, “Actually, I like this man. I like the way he speaks. I like the way he listens. I like the respect with which he treats women. I like the emotional maturity he brings to politics,” then so be it. My parents sent me to America alone at 16 because they believed in what this country promised. That promise wasn't about where you were born. It was about what you were willing to build. Immigrants have been building this country since before it was a country. And for 250 years, every generation has had to fight to keep that door open. This administration wants to slam it shut. Ban pregnant women. Strip birthright citizenship. Criminalize the very legal pathways that brought people like me here. We will fight that xenophobia.
