Even on paper, it was never a good fit. Gunn ALWAYS made dumb, goofy movies with questionable decisions. Held back and supported by the MCU it worked (at least for the first GotG), but other than that, it was obvious that Gunn was the WORST man for the job. He hates superheroes.

Gunn found success when he landed at Marvel with the Guardians. His success there taught him nothing about creating a CMB cinematic universe that wasn’t a Guardians-clone. Hell, I’m not a fan of the SnyderVerse but at least he knew better to make sure the big 3 was the priority
