I hear those first few seconds of synthesized drums and immediately, it is 2006 again.

From Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Gandalf's side, this is almost absurd. They've spent days chasing these two, sure they were dead. Freed Théoden from Saruman, survived Helm's Deep, and now they walk straight into the wreckage of a war. And they find Merry and Pippin sitting in the ruins of Isengard, smoking, eating, acting like they own the place. "Welcome, my lords, to Isengard." That line is what makes the scene. Most people standing in front of Saruman's fallen tower would be thinking about power. Weapons. Secrets. Revenge. Merry and Pippin found food. It's a joke, but it's also why hobbits matter so much in this story. Their wants are small and never shallow. A good meal, a pipe, a friend nearby. That's what makes them so much harder to corrupt than anyone hungry for glory. They're not immune to evil because they're simple. They resist it because they still remember what life is supposed to be for. The scene gets funnier from how differently everyone reacts. Aragorn and Legolas are just glad they're alive. Gimli perks up the second salted pork gets mentioned. Gandalf looks like a man who came back from death to find the same two idiots in trouble again. Merry and Pippin? Unbothered. Kidnapped, nearly killed, dragged through Fangorn, caught in the collapse of Isengard, and they've turned the apocalypse into second breakfast. That's why it works. It's comic relief, but not empty. It reminds you what the whole war is trying to protect. Not kingdoms. Not crowns. A world where two hobbits can sit in the ruins, eat salted pork and laugh, because for one moment they're still alive.
