During a protest outside an ICE facility in Aurora, Colorado, 21-year-old Emma Landis was shot in the foot by Brandon Booth, an employee of the private contractor GEO Group. Emma explained that facility workers had been mocking the demonstrators, and Booth fired at her as she tried to cross the street. Now using a knee scooter, Emma spoke to a crowd to reject Booth's later claim that the shooting wasn't intentional, countering, "You did intend to shoot me, because you did shoot me." The injury has completely disrupted her life, forcing her into weeks of strict bed rest. She emphasized that having your feelings hurt by words spoken at a protest never justifies shooting someone.
