Thin. And I do mean thin, hardpacked layer of snow explained. When we plow our 🚶🚲 paths this well, combined with good drainage, the temperature fluctuations and melt will cause much much less trouble. #MeanwhileInOulu #Oulu 🇫🇮

To learn more, join our Oulu @CityMasterclass at Next one coming up 7-9 Feb 👌There's also the international Winter Cycling Congress in Edmonton 🇨🇦, 22-24 Feb where I'll be speaking as well. & @WorldWinterBike

Voisi keväällä tehdä jonkun Oulu vs Helsinki seurannan, että kauanko kestää termisen kevään alusta siihen kun pyörätiellä näkyy asfaltti. Veikkaan että Oulussa on pyörätiet sulana aiemmin, vaikka terminen kevät alkaa kuukautta myöhemmin.

Meanwhile, @HelsinkiKymp dumps a ton of salt on the snow, so that cyclicts gotta ride in slush even in freezing temperatures and bikes rust faster 😔

This is awesome. I wish we had these in Oslo. I live in a somewhat central location and close to a school, yet the roads are not plowed nearly as well. Today we had 5-15cm of snowfall and the snowplow only came once and quite late.

That would be great at lighting up dark crosswalks. I don't understand why crosswalks are not lit from above and from the side to light up the pedestrians crossing.

@BicycleDutch No need for these then?

@BicycleDutch Absolutely no need. Some ppl do use them though, and whatever makes one feel more comfortable going outdoors, I'm all for it 🤗

Miten saatais nämä opit käyttöön Helsinkiin? @HelsinkiKymp voisitte ottaa Oulusta oppia pyöräteiden hoitoon.

@CityMasterclass Hopefully, when you get here (@CityofEdmonton) for the @WinterCyclingFd Congress, we will 1) have snow, 2) have Oulo-standard routes cleared for you to properly #winterbike with us.

In order to plow that closely your construction must be higher quality than here in Denver.

Exactly. It's crucial that the infrastructure is built winter-proof and easily & effectively maintainable. That said, we too have got got lots of 60's-70's-80's old infra in bad condition and maintaining them is naturally slower and less efficient.
