Things took a serious turn when Chappelle mentioned that flags would be flown at half-staff during Trump’s inauguration due to the death of former Democratic President Jimmy Carter. Chappelle admitted he wasn’t qualified to judge whether Carter was a good president, but he did reach a conclusion about whether...

Legendary comedian Dave Chappelle brought the laughs with a masterful 16-minute monologue to open SNL’s first episode of 2025. After delivering a range of laugh-out-loud moments, his message to Trump is now commanding widespread attention. Audience members started rolling when Chappelle discussed the catastrophic wildfires that devastated California—to which he dropped a hilarious conspiracy theory on what started the fires in the first place. “What started these fires? Now they say it’s arsonists. I’ve heard this theory, and I’m sure there were some arsonists, but there were a lot of elements that came together to make this fire the catastrophe that it was,” Chappelle said as he was setting up the punchline. “The winds were 100 miles an hour. LA was dry as a bone in the levees. And there were just too many factors. If you are a rational, thinking person, you have to at least consider the possibility that God hates these people.”

Next came a laugh-out-loud, three-minute story about Diddy and why Chappelle was never invited to his “freak offs.” True to his style, Chappelle leaned into self-pity, coming to an amusing conclusion that left the audience rolling.

The viral moment of the night happened when Chappelle shifted from former President Carter to Donald Trump. “The presidency is no place for petty people,” Chappelle declared before turning to the camera and uttering Trump’s name. “I know you [Donald Trump] watch the show,” he continued, delivering a direct plea to the incoming president. “Remember, whether people voted for you or not, they’re all counting on you. Whether they like you or not, they’re all counting on you. The whole world is counting on you,” Chappelle said. “I mean this when I say this. Good luck. Please do better next time. Please, all of us, do better next time. Do not forget your humanity. And please have empathy for displaced people, whether they’re in the Palisades or Palestine. Thank you very much, and good night.”

While doing better is an important message for everyone, some find it unfair that Chappelle singled out Trump, especially when Biden revealed his disdain for half the country by calling them “garbage,” a moment that hit Democrats hard this election cycle.

While I love Dave Chappelle’s comedy and he’ll always be a legend, maybe he should reflect and do better himself. A plea that makes only one side sound like they’re not striving to be a president for everyone just ends up splitting the country more. What do you think?

Dave is Muslim, he jokes about everyone and everything, except for Islam. Carter destroyed the middle east by letting the Mullahs and radical Islam back into Iran to over throw the Shah. The Shah who kept Iran secular, which it's been for most of it's 4000+ year history.

Did this asshole so-called "goat" clown ever mentioned that President Trump (and First Lady) flew without lights on into danger zone at night to greet our troops? How about walking into North Korea to meet Kim Jong Un? Carter did irreversible damages to America.

Dave is a Muslim. And uses every SNL gig to mention this apartheid malarkey or how the Jews run the media. He’s funny though. But consider the source. Blaming 🇮🇱 for the W. Bank not being a Palestinian state ignores 7-8 rejected ☮️ deals (that one cannot expect to always be a fallback after endless wars).

Good jokes, too bad Carter's story ruined it.

Howard Hawks on his meeting with Al Capone & what Capone and another famous Chicago gangster thought about 'Scarface' (1932) when they saw the film: "Interviewer: Did you have any contact with Al Capone while making the picture? Hawks: While we were making 'Scarface' (1932), five or six of them came out and said, “The boss wants us to see the picture.” And I said, “You go and tell him when it comes out, he can pay a dollar and buy a ticket. You don’t scare me. Why the hell don’t you come out and just ask to see it?” They reported to Capone that it was just great, and they invited me to Chicago to see him. They met me at the train, and they were late. One of the fellows said, “There was a killing last night and we had to go to the funeral.” I said, “Do I have to ride with you if there was a killing last night?” They said I could ride in a different car. But when we went into a café, they would sit with their backs to the wall, and I had my back to the door. We had some damn good-looking girls with us, a bit brassy but very pretty. When I saw Capone, we had tea, and he was dressed in a morning coat, striped trousers, a carnation, being a very nice man, saying how much he liked the picture. I was with him two, three hours. Then he asked me to come again, and I stopped by there. But there was a shooting in Chicago, so they said that he couldn’t come because he was hiding out in Atlantic City or something. Then he came to see me when I was working in Hollywood, and the cops came and arrested him right on the set. Interviewer: So he did see 'Scarface'? Hawks: Five or six times. He had his own print of it. He thought it was great. He’d say, “Jesus Christ, you guys got a lot of stuff in that picture! How’d you know about that?” I said, “Look—you know how somebody can’t testify if he’s a lawyer? Well, I’m a lawyer.” And he laughed. He didn’t give a damn. Another famous gangster brought two very lovely daughters out to watch the movie and introduced himself to me. He said, “Where’d you get that stuff in that killing?” I asked him, “Why? Are you mad?” He said, “No, I’m just curious.” I told him, and he laughed, and he said, “That’s the way we did the shooting. Why hasn’t the picture played in Chicago?” I said, “They won’t let me.” He said, “Do you want it to play?” I said yeah. And he said, “Can I use your phone a minute?” When he finished he said, “You can play it any time you want.” ('Hawks on Hawks', Joseph McBride, 1982) P.S: On this day, 94 years ago, 'Scarface' (1932) premiered in New Orleans, Luisiana.

BREAKING IN WASHINGTON: Dr. Fauci tells Congress he had to contradict President Trump on the podium because he felt it was his responsibility to tell the American people the truth, to tell them about what science actually said. He was responding to a leading question by Democratic Congressman Jared Moskowitz (Jared Moskowitz). WATCH Question: Dr. Fauci, you talked about how we live in partisan times. A lot of misinformation and colleagues on this body said you should be charged and found guilty. Of course, the only one that's happened to is your former boss. But the question I have is when you saw a lot of that disinformation, whether it was we can use a disinfectant to do like a cleaning or do light in the body, or that China is working super hard, President Xi's got it contained. All of this stuff that was being put out, were you concerned? What was your feeling at that time working in the administration, seeing that come from the podium? Answer: Well, I was very frustrated by that. It was very clear I was put in a very difficult position that I didn't like of having to contradict publicly the president of the United States. I took no great pleasure in that, but I felt it was my responsibility to preserve. Question: He must have thought you did a great job. He gave you a commendation right before he left. Answer: Well, I felt it was my responsibility, you know, as to preserve my own personal integrity and my major responsibility to the American public to tell them the truth. And if I could just take this opportunity. When I was saying that if you attack me, you attack science, I didn't mean that I am science. What I meant was that when the data show that hydroxychloroquine does not work and there are people saying, oh, it does, I'll give it to people, and we know it can be hurtful to them, then when you're attacking what I'm saying, that the science shows it doesn't work and the science shows that bleach doesn't work, that when you attack that you really are attacking science because science has shown that it doesn't work. That's what I meant when you attack me, you're attacking science. Response: Thank you, doctor. Thank you, mister chairman. I yield back, time's expired. Now recognize Mister Jordan from...

WATCH: Secretary of State Rubio smacks down reporter for LYING about his statements from yesterday, falsely claiming he said Israel dragged the U.S. into war with Iran.... Reporter: “Yesterday, you told us that Israel was going to strike Iran and that that's why we needed to get involved. Today, the President said that —” Rubio: “No.” Reporter: “— Iran was going to get strike [sic].” Rubio: “Yeah, your statement is false. So, that's not what — I was asked very specifically. Were you there yesterday?” Reporter: “Yes, I asked a question.” Rubio: “Okay. No. Were you the one that — because somebody asked me a question yesterday, did we go in because of Israel? And I said..., no, I told you this had to happen. Anyway, the President made a decision, and the decision he made was that Iran was not going to be allowed to hide behind its ballistic missile program, that Iran was not going to be allowed to hide behind its ability to conduct these attacks. That decision had been made. The President systematically made a decision to systematically destroy this terrorist capability that they had, and we carried that out. I was very clear on that answer. This was a question of timing, of why this had to happen as a joint operation, not the question of the intent. Once the President made a decision that negotiations were not going to work, that they were playing us on the negotiations, and that this was a threat that was untenable, the decision was made to strike them. That's what I said yesterday. And you guys need to play it. If you're going to play these statements, you need to play the whole statement, not clip it to reach a narrative that you want to do, all right?”

Denzel Washington’s epic monologue towards the end of Training Day was largely improvised on set. Director Antoine Fuqua was so blown away by his performance, he says he thinks he "forgot to yell cut”. He explains… “That’s Denzel. He was just in his zone. I mean, that was one of those moment...people talk about AI. Those are the moments where you go...it's a great tool. It's gonna be a great tool, I think...but the emotion, and the moment that an actor can bring - you can't predict that. That's something that's just inside of Denzel. And when that came out, I was just like - I hope I got it. I just turned to my operator - who was shaking- I looked over at the guy - I was like, “please tell me you got that.” Because that was the take. That was it. There was no other take - I mean, how do you tell an actor like that, that that wasn't good enough? …He walked over to me, and he just had this look in his eyes. I was like, “you good?” He said, “you good?” I said, “Yeah…” Some of that was in the script, but he flipped it the way he did it. "Putting cases on all you." He kind of added some things in there. And then he just went into a whole other zone with the whole King Kong thing- with Pelican Bay - Denzel started that. That was Denzel. That was him, man. He just kind of lit up, and I think I forgot to yell cut. I was just watching it, because everybody started walking away, and I'm just watching him, and then he lights a cigarette - and he's talking - and I'm just watching him. I think at some point he probably looked at me like, you going to cut? And I'm like, “oh yeah, yeah, cut.” He was still in it. That's the thing with Denzel. He was so Alonso…I'm just watching him for a while because I didn't know what else he was going to do. It was just so magical. And then I think he looked up at me and I was like, “Okay, cut, cut.”
