Think about it, how many mobile/console game developers, ioT engineers or robotics engineers do you know.

I think I’ve enough experience to talk about this. Ive been in the Tech field for almost 10 years now, I am 20 years old and I started out helping my dad repair stuff and just staying around assisting. Back in 2016-2017, I started reading a lot of electronics books which my dad had back then and i did a lot of circuits. As someone who came from a very poor family, my parents could not afford even buying resistors and capacitors and Ics which i needed to practice what ive read. I had to go to scrap yards to get components from damaged electronics. And i would sometimes heat nails on our then charcoal / wood stove to de-solder the components from the pcb. I never had the right materials back then but i had the passion and it kept me going. Fast forward to 2020, Ive asked my dad to get me an arduino Uno as a birthday gift which he did. I started learning c++ and got deep into arduino timers. Unfortunately I bricked my uno board , but at least I’ve learnt the timers and basic microcontroller programming. I was able to build a little wheeled robot that could be controlled via Bluetooth from an android app where i used the hc05 BLE module and an attiny85 microcontroller. I wrote the code myself with a little bit of help from tutorial videos from channels like greatscott, electronoobs and instructables websites. I then decided to pause hardware and see if i can get money with skills i can learn. Then i started learning python in august of 2020. I did my first freelance project in 2021 on freelancer website and 13 more gigs before my account got suspended because i could not verify as i was underaged and did not have a passport or ID card. Now its 2025, and my life has greatly improved, plus i have good experience writing good industrial software and now i am going back to the good old hardware days. I would love to connect with anyone who does hardware in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. Never let lack of materials prevent you from building, theres always a solution. As a struggling economy we've got to make use of the resources we have and build our own stuff.

This is really true! I am into Robotics and there are just very few people really into this. it takes a whole lot to thrive in this space in Nigeria but -hardware requirements (PC for a start), right mentorship, resources and funds (really important) for one to make a headway.

And also, the speed of guaranteed ROI to learn those tins Most of us here need something we can learn now and get paid as soon as possible even if not big pay..at least be paid make u for see front Deep AI reassarch and Robotics are very niche and not many startups are hiring for those…it’s mostly the few big established companies

I try my best to introduce students to these options as early as possible. The time to get a meaningful return on investment is quite long for things like robotics. The cost is also quite high. Many people just want to survive and not damage a random $70 Raspberry Pi.

We forget that our basic needs in Africa are unresolved and are designed to be that way. As long as food, transportation, energy, economic, and political security are still major problems in Africa without foreseeable solutions, then Tech will only work with us and not for us.

It's also because of the lack of expertise in those fields. @nithub_lag is bridging this gap with support for trainings like embedded systems and IoT. We also have companies like @terraindustries building drone & robotics solutions here. So it's a gradual step sha

Thank you, as for the real robotics, you just need a good laptop to get started, you can build a complete robot and test it using software like ROS and Gazebo

No better way to say this , the hardware industry is really expensive to break into

I’ve been saying this for a minute now. I’m working on something to this effect anyways. Would love to chat more about it… we can talk. I think we have each others numbers.

In Nigeria or where?

Just creating a 3d blender donut animation broo my laptop 😂😂 and I already made up my mind when I finish school and I pray the Money I am saving will be enough I am getting a Nvidia rtx laptop

I do robotics.. studied mechatronics engineering in school

Bro I am into IoT

Valid point

Word!

Need someone to sponsor my training for game dev Mainly unity

After web im going fully into AI and nothing is stopping that, just need to find my way outta here though🥲🥲😪

Who are guys always hiding from 🤔

This is really true, I am into IoT, It takes a whole lot to thrive in this space in Nigeria.

Yes, game development too, we need games in Nigeria

I reserve my comments.

Iot, robotics and game dev no be HTML and CSS

Hmmmm

You should see what I'm building and the way people tell me to give it up because its not a Nigerian thing. Hardware is the solution to unemployment yet everyone wants to fund fintech.

Know me, cuz I'll be one soon

Tell @bosuntijani he should talk to the Government regarding funding and infrastructures.

To get into these fields requires money, especially Robotics because you’ll need to buy components. Arduino Starter kit alone cost about 50k. I take kids robotics online and physically in some schools which I’ll have to train them with my own kits because they can’t afford it.

I know a number of em actually

They aren't much tbh

I’ve been on cybersecurity for half a decade and transitioned to AI nd blockchain security, after a while, ur basic laptop becomes toast. Wsl in Vscode doesn’t run anymore, VMs stop working, the system feels crazy heavy and every keystroke seems like a chore. The laptop is gone.

Click bait - how many countries and universities graduates do you want in AI ? Please will you retract this post if I send you 50 names of people studying AI in Africa? or even IoT? is this why you r wearing mask...this kind of content does not help Africa ..

First time I wanted to learn game development, I couldn’t even find anyone doing it at all. And I think the jobs in it are kind of low as well.

No truer words has been said. When I started software development, The new AI wave hadn't even come through but I was interested in AI and Machine Learning so bad. I gave up at some point when I realized that I needed money quickly and only web dev could get me that.

IoT education can actually be cheap in Africa compared to the rest. Chips and boards can be readily sourced.

I actually loved the idea of 3d modeling and animations but when restricted by an outdated system running win 7, you tend to digress alot to what you can actually do at the moment, not to talk about the power supply issue even with a good system to render takes time.
