That’s why I’m proud to join hands with the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, for a special awareness campaign under the National Mission on Edible Oils (NMEO). First, institutionally, India is the President of the BRICS this year. I regard the BRICS as tremendously important, as consequential and as beneficial for the world, as a stabiliser for the world. Half the world’s population, half the world’s GDP, major countries. And to be able to say we’re not in a US-run world, we’re not in a world where the US can declare it’s going to put another country into the Stone Ages, we’re in a civilised world based on international law, on the UN Charter. So the BRICS presidency is a particular reason. Second, it isn’t pleasant dealing with Mr. Trump, I have no doubt about it. So it’s better to do it together with partners. I like to think of India and China and Russia as partners, not only as fellow members of the BRICS, but as partners in saying we want a multipolar world, not a world of blocs and not a world in which the United States continues its 30-plus-year delusion of hegemony. Indian government has just pulled off 2 big steps to control raising fuel prices. But NOBODY knows about the 2nd one! Step 1. Cut Fuel Taxes Govt reduced central excise duty on petrol and diesel to cushion consumers from rising global crude prices. Petrol excise duty is reduced from ₹13 to ₹3 per litre. Diesel duty was cut from ₹10 to ₹0. But this relief comes at a cost. Every Re 1 per litre reduction results in an annual revenue loss of Rs 14,000-16,000 crore. A Rs 10 cut could therefore lead to a revenue impact of nearly Rs 1.5 trillion for the Centre. But, the obvious question is how is this gap being managed? Step 2: Increased export duties. On same day, govt reimposed windfall taxes of ₹21.5 per litre on diesel exports and ₹29.5 per litre on aviation turbine fuel exports. Because India’s large private refiners, like Reliance and Nayara, can export refined fuel when overseas margins are attractive. Export duties do 2 things at once: they help recover some revenue, and they make excessive exports less attractive so more fuel stays available for the domestic market. Indian government has just pulled off 2 big steps to control raising fuel prices. But NOBODY knows about the 2nd one! Step 1. Cut Fuel Taxes Govt reduced central excise duty on petrol and diesel to cushion consumers from rising global crude prices. Petrol excise duty is reduced from ₹13 to ₹3 per litre. Diesel duty was cut from ₹10 to ₹0. But this relief comes at a cost. Every Re 1 per litre reduction results in an annual revenue loss of Rs 14,000-16,000 crore. A Rs 10 cut could therefore lead to a revenue impact of nearly Rs 1.5 trillion for the Centre. But, the obvious question is how is this gap being managed? Step 2: Increased export duties. On same day, govt reimposed windfall taxes of ₹21.5 per litre on diesel exports and ₹29.5 per litre on aviation turbine fuel exports. Because India’s large private refiners, like Reliance and Nayara, can export refined fuel when overseas margins are attractive. Export duties do 2 things at once: they help recover some revenue, and they make excessive exports less attractive so more fuel stays available for the domestic market. Most folks think the Declaration of Independence happened in 1776—and sure, that’s when it was signed up in Philly. But let me tell you something they forgot to mention in your textbooks: North Carolina beat ‘em to it. May 20, 1775—that’s when a group of bold, fed-up North Carolinians gathered right here in Mecklenburg County and said, “That’s it. We’re DONE.” No more British overreach, no more unjust taxes, no more sitting quietly. They wrote their own declaration. Yep, before Jefferson, before Congress, before July 4th made it on a T-shirt. And what did they say? They said they were “a FREE and independent people,” governed only by their God and a general congress of their choosing—not a king an ocean away. That took guts. That made them traitors in the eyes of the Crown. And one brave soul, Captain James Jack, got on horseback and rode all the way to Philadelphia to deliver the Mecklenburg Declaration to our reps up there. Over 700 miles. No GPS, no paved roads—just a message that freedom had already been declared down South. But the big wigs in Congress? They brushed it off. Jefferson even mocked it, claiming folks in Carolina weren’t smart enough to write something so bold and eloquent. Joke’s on him, because when he did pen the official Declaration a year later—well, let’s just say some of that language sounded mighty familiar. So today, May 20th, don’t let the moment pass you by. YUNGBLUD, a fairly unknown British pop rock artist, performs to 70,000 people in Mumbai, India. 🇮🇳 Yungblud, born Dominic Harrison in Doncaster, is a British pop rock and alternative artist known for his high energy performances and emotionally driven music.
