They didn’t want TV to show the dashes yet we clearly hear spotters and crew chiefs relaying SMT data of competing cars in real time. Make it make sense.

It's even worse to think that F1 basically forced teams to use it, and they started adding a filter to the dash to hide info. It can be done

This is the natural evolution of the in-car camera, which was introduced nearly 50 years ago. To hell with what the teams want. This should be on the side of the headrest if they don't want it directly on the helmet.
