The one thing about this case that has shocked me is that people were "asked" for messages. Politely allowed to check themselves. Why wasn't the request sent via subpoena to their carriers? Or, at minimum, a preservation order sent? I always thought that was how it was done.

So set your own phone to whatever you want (I know, discoverable if...) but the fact that an issued phone is set to auto delete when it is, without question, discoverable touches on knowingly destroying evidence.

Imagine being a detective and not thinking about iCloud? 🤣You can outrun people but you can’t outrun your own actions.
