@DisabilityGovUK @FrankBarnesDeaf But if you live in south london and your EHCP doesn’t let you attend despite being born with deafness and having cochlear implants Why isn’t bsl taught in all schools ..

Infants are the world’s most accomplished language learners. As the process unfolds, children pass through stages of progressively more complex “babbling” before they begin using conventional words. But babbling isn’t limited to spoken language. Deaf children and the children of deaf parents pass through similar stages as they approximate the use of sign language - which brings us to this video, shared to IG by oursignedworld. Watch how locked in this little guy is as he “speaks” with his deaf father, observing dad’s sign language and then “babbling” back with his arms and hands. In time he will become both an accomplished signer and speaker. What a lovely example of language acquisition in process.

He studied in a Kannada-medium school for his primary and middle schooling, where he scored 98% and was considered exceptionally bright. However, when he shifted to an English-medium school for high school, he struggled to keep up with other students and his marks dropped to 17-18. He makes a striking observation in the context of Tamil Nadu: Tamil will not grow just by Tamilians speaking Tamil; rather, the growth of Tamilians will ensure Tamil’s growth. English is the global language. Most scientific knowledge is available primarily in English. The world is moving towards English, yet the RSS does not want your children to learn or speak it. Meanwhile, BJP leaders’ children study in English-medium schools and pursue education abroad. They don’t want you to learn English, ensuring that you and your children remain subservient to them. Growth of our people will strengthen our language and culture and not by trapping our people in our own language forever without learning how to take on the world.

Placed first nationally in South African Sign Language, Shezi reflects on the many challenges he faced as a deaf learner, including limited access to interpreters and learning in a language that is not English. Despite these barriers, he pushed himself to excel, motivated by a desire to change the future for other deaf learners. He credits his teachers for instilling confidence and discipline, and says his dream is to become an educator for deaf children so that those who come after him can have better opportunities than he did.
